Sunae Station BBQ with hijiki cold noodle finish: Jeju Monteurak
In short
Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch is a Jeju black pork ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) restaurant on the first floor of the Gratea officetel by Sunae Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. Two servings of black pork ogyeopsal and a seafood traditional doenjang jjigae were grilled tableside by staff and eaten with baek kimchi, myeongi namul, shredded scallion and myeoljeot (salted anchovy sauce), then finished with the house tot naengmyeon (hijiki seaweed cold noodles). With no grilling to do yourself, Jeju Monteurak also works well for a group dinner near Sunae Station.

Today I want to introduce a meat restaurant near Sunae Station that I visited while out in the Pangyo area! Yes... I've actually been obsessed with Jeju samgyeopsal lately... even when I cook it at home it never tastes like it does at a restaurant... food someone else makes for you really is the best!!! Let me introduce it right away :)
Where is Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch, and where do you park?
Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch is a Jeju black pork specialty restaurant on the first floor of the Gratea building on Hwangsaeul-ro 258beon-gil near Sunae Station. You can park right next door at the Gratea officetel parking lot!
Just seeing the word 'Jeju' on the sign already gets me excited

How big is the restaurant, and can it take a group dinner?
This was my first visit to Jeju Monteurak, and wow... the restaurant was seriously huge. Totally doable for group dinners, and the space has that Jeju vibe going crazy...!!! It was extra nice because it was so clean too.

This is the certification mark for 100% Jeju pork, verified by Jeju Island. It really inspires trust.

They even have aprons ready for you like this~
What we ordered and the side dishes that came with it
We first ordered black pork samgyeopsal for two and a seafood traditional doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) at Jeju Monteurak! Here's what the menu looks like!

Since I'd made a reservation ahead of time through Naver, they had all the side dishes set up in advance (Jeju Monteurak's pickled shredded scallions are seriously... so good)

There were various sauces and myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), and as for what that one empty side dish spot was for!

It was for this baek kimchi (white kimchi)! Jeju Monteurak grills the baek kimchi together with the samgyeopsal. Apparently eating grilled baek kimchi with the pork is such a delicious combination. I'll show you in a bit haha
Staff grilling service: who cooks the black pork
Another great thing about Jeju Monteurak is that they offer a grilling service. Just like food tastes better when someone else makes it, meat tastes better when someone else grills it too, seriously... it's a game changer.
Because they grilled it for us, my husband and I got to just chat away. And for office workers, it's usually the youngest one who has to grill the meat, but at Jeju Monteurak there's absolutely no need for that! Company dinners should happen at Jeju Monteurak!!

The nicely grilled baek kimchi gets put back in its spot. We watched the meat cook haha

I'm... a strong J personality type, so seeing the meat lined up so neatly in rows made me weirdly happy... it's so clean... I feel a rush of joy.

Once the meat is fully grilled, they place it to one side along with asparagus. And for the grand finale, they grill king oyster mushrooms too.

Once the myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) is set out, we're ready to eat!
Black pork ogyeopsal with baek kimchi, myeongi namul and myeoljeot
My husband and I clinked glasses for a toast and popped it straight into our mouths. On the first bite I tasted the meat's own flavor and aroma — juicy and just the right thickness, it coated my mouth in the best way.

Second, I carefully wrapped the meat in baek kimchi and ate it with wasabi. The baek kimchi was sweet and tangy, and I finally understood why the staff recommended this combination!!!

But honestly, the combination of myeongi namul and the shredded scallions was my top pick. It's just refreshing plus juicy, need I say more.

We really ate it every which way... we also tried it with myeoljeot, which I don't usually go for. But Jeju Monteurak's myeoljeot was so delicious. Strangely, even its funky depth wasn't too salty, and the balance was great.

Seafood traditional doenjang jjigae and the house hijiki cold noodles
Next up was the seafood doenjang jjigae we ordered. True to its name, it was packed with various seafood. Clams, shrimp, tofu — the broth was spicy and clean.

We couldn't stop there... so we ordered the special toht (hijiki seaweed) naengmyeon (cold noodles), and honestly... it would've been a huge mistake not to order this. It was my first time trying toht. The texture was really chewy and springy. It might be a love-it-or-hate-it thing, but I loved it!
This toht naengmyeon cut right through the greasiness from all the meat! Refreshing, spicy, and cooling all at once!! So I highly recommend anyone eating meat here finish with this toht naengmyeon as a palate cleanser.

The self-service breath-check zone at the register
When you finish eating and head out, there's a zone at the register where you can check your own breath. Seeing little touches like this, the owner really has excellent taste.

Why Jeju Monteurak works for a group dinner near Sunae Station
I totally get now why Jeju Monteurak is a certified Model Restaurant of Gyeonggi Province!! It really was a powerhouse Bundang restaurant :) If you want to try Jeju samgyeopsal that's crispy outside, juicy inside, and bursting with flavor, Jeju Monteurak won't disappoint. Especially if you pick it as a company dinner spot near Sunae Station, I think you'll get nothing but praise from the higher-ups!
