Daegu mackerel restaurant with an SUV parking tower: Geumdeungeo

In short

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is a wood-fired mackerel set-meal restaurant on the 2nd floor at 57 Deulan-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu, where the mackerel is cured with nuruk salt. On a weekend family dinner the whole table ordered the grilled mackerel and used the building's own parking tower (an SUV fits), a private room with a door that closes, a self-serve banchan bar and coffee after the meal. With wide seats and plenty of high chairs, Geumdeungeo Deulanguil is an easy choice for a meal out with parents.

A weekend family dinner at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil in Daegu

Tonight was a weekend family dinner, so we headed to Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch — one of those Suseong-gu, Daegu restaurants I already trust completely. If you're looking for a Suseong-gu family dinner spot, a Deulanguil place for a work dinner, or a restaurant near Suseong Lake to bring your parents to, this is my top pick! It's such a great restaurant to take your parents to in Daegu that I had to write this up right away!

Does an SUV fit in the parking tower?

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch has its own building parking, making it one of the roomier parking spots among Suseong-gu restaurants. No need to worry about parking at all~ We drive an SUV and it thankfully still fit into the tower! Even if your car doesn't fit the tower, there's room for about 10 cars on the first floor of the building, and there's staff dedicated to guiding you through parking!

Follow the arrows into the building and take the elevator up to the 2nd floor. You must register your parking after your meal!!

What we ordered: grilled mackerel for the whole table

The signature menu at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is the nuruk-salt aged wood-fired grilled mackerel and the fire-charred spicy pork stir-fry~! If you can't decide, you can order one of each, but we'd heard the grilled mackerel was so light and delicious that we all ordered that instead!

Takeout orders are all possible too!

This place is certified as a 'safe restaurant' by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, strictly following rules like 'providing serving utensils so you can portion your own food,' 'hygienic utensil management,' and 'staff wearing masks' — certified by the local government, making it a trustworthy Suseong-gu restaurant. The staff kept their masks on even in the heat and were extremely careful about hygiene, and everyone was so, so kind...👼🏻🩷🩷

Neatly packaged side dishes for takeout order
Store corner displaying packaged side dishes for takeout

Looks like takeout orders are huge here too. Everything is packed so neatly that it's basically Daegu's best banchan (side dish) shop — a rice thief's dream, all gathered in one place~

Kiosk ordering and Wi-Fi at the table

There's a kiosk at every table, but staff came ahead of time to enter our order and even showed us to our seats! Every single staff member was so, so kind... Service was top-notch.

You can even order hot water separately. Such thoughtful detail...♡

You can connect to the Wi-Fi password via QR code, and this is the first time I've seen a restaurant display it this big lol. So refreshing. As someone who always looks for the Wi-Fi first at restaurants, this sign was pure genius >_<

Private rooms and seating: is it okay with kids?

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is right by Suseong Lake, and is a Korean restaurant in Suseong-gu, Daegu that's comfortable for family dinners, work dinners, group gatherings, and even anniversary meals — the seats are really wide and comfortable. A huge advantage. Let me show you around!

Spacious seating in the high-ceilinged hall with full-length windows

Closable private room seating

There are tons of high chairs too. There were so many families dining out, so I'd highly recommend this as a family dinner spot with kids in Suseong-gu, Daegu!

Toward the back, there's a room-style dining setup where you can close the door and enjoy a private space with your group!

So spacious and clean! The menu is all healthy food too, so it's a perfect pick for a formal meeting-the-in-laws restaurant or a private room restaurant in Suseong-gu, Daegu — right up your parents' alley~!

How the self-serve banchan bar works

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch serves a variety of side dishes made from seasonal ingredients alongside a semi-hanjeongsik (Korean full-course set meal) style spread, and you can freely refill more banchan at the self-serve bar!

Corner set up with gangjeong rice puff snacks

There's even a tidy little corner of gangjeong (sweet rice puff snacks) for snacking haha

Even the utensils are individually wrapped — they really care about hygiene! The whole restaurant was so spotless it practically sparkled, they clearly put a huge amount of care into cleanliness!

Once you order, a whole row of healthy side dishes comes out first~! A rice thief's paradise.

Even the soup is proper Daegu hanjeongsik quality. These were exactly the kind of side dishes your parents would love haha

How the nuruk-salt wood-fired mackerel tasted

Ta-da — the nuruk-aged wood-fired mackerel with its deep flavor and clean finish is Geumdeungeo's signature dish. It's a genuinely healthy meal that catches both health and taste at once!!!

Nuruk-salt aged wood-fired grilled mackerel

They even gave us nuruk salt to dip it in~! Not just plain salt — nuruk salt!!! The salt used in the nuruk salt is natural sun-dried salt from New Zealand's clean waters, combined with the beneficial microbes of rice nuruk (fermentation starter), adding health and flavor together to the nutrient-rich mackerel~! That's actually where the restaurant's name comes from — 'geum' from nuruk salt meets 'deungeo' (mackerel) to become Geumdeungeo. Such a meaningful name🩵

Grilled in a 450-degree wood-fired oven, the mackerel is crispy on the outside, moist inside, with a rich flavor you can really taste haha. Maybe because it's cooked in a wood-fired oven, it already looks incredibly crispy just from the visual...✨✨

The soup was so refreshing and delicious too! Overall the seasoning wasn't too strong, just light and clean, which I loved ㅠㅠ Since they carefully select healthy ingredients, you can taste the freshness the moment you take a bite...

They even portion out one mackerel per person onto small plates for easy eating~ That crispy-outside-moist-inside look is unbeatable.

There are no bones inside, so you don't have to pick anything out — you can just eat it right away! The flesh was so moist!!!!

Put rice and mackerel dipped in nuruk salt onto plain, unseasoned seaweed, and you've got yourself a genuinely healthy and delicious meal in seconds...♥

Free coffee and drinks after the meal

They also serve coffee made with Starbucks beans, hot or iced!

Brewed coffee at the post-meal coffee corner

It's hot out, so of course iced Americano is the way to go. They even keep a huge stack of ice cups ready...🩵 Such a thoughtful touch ㅠㅠ

A well-stocked pile of ice cups

There are even three coffee machines

Three coffee machines lined up side by side

And for anyone who doesn't drink coffee, there's a whole selection including a sweet-and-tangy apricot juice!

Apricot juice served as a dessert drink option

And of course, no coffee corner is complete without instant mix coffee~ They deliberately placed it by the entrance so you can grab one on your way out, and they keep it very well stocked. You can really feel their thoughtfulness and attention to detail... I was touched.

We finished off with an iced Americano after the meal, dessert and all, properly enjoyed haha
