Late-night sashimi and salted grilled shrimp in Hongdae: Eosa Chulto

My partner and I really love sashimi and seafood~! I've been to a different branch of Eosa Chulto before haha, but this time I finally visited [Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch]! It happens to be shrimp season right now and I was craving shrimp so badly haha, so we headed to Hongdae to get both sashimi and shrimp~! 🦐

Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch is a sashimi restaurant located at Hoseong Building, 8 Donggyo-ro 27-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Hours are Mon–Sat 11:30–23:00 (last order 22:30), closed every Sunday, and parking is available at the paid lot next door (Hyunwoo Building). The restroom is shared, inside the restaurant.

Being so close to Hongik Univ. Station made it convenient to meet up here!

Is Eosa Chulto good for a Hongdae group dinner? Inside the restaurant

Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch has plenty of space for groups, so it seemed like a good spot for a Hongdae work dinner too. We visited a bit late, but there were still quite a lot of customers!

The restaurant was bigger than expected with room for large groups, so it looked good for friend gatherings or company dinners. There really were a lot of group customers there haha!

So if you're looking for a group dinner spot at a Hongik Univ. sashimi restaurant, this could be a good reference~!

[Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch] really had a wide variety of menu items!

There are à la carte items like flounder, rockfish, and salmon

And there was also a nice variety of set menus with several kinds of fish together, making it easy to choose. The lunch specials looked great in both composition and price too — good for lunch haha!

Ordering late: small assorted sashimi and salted grilled shrimp instead of the shrimp set

Honestly, we came to Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch that day specifically craving shrimp! We wanted both grilled shrimp and raw shrimp, but since we visited a bit late, there wasn't much shrimp left ㅠㅠ Popular as ever, that shrimp!! So we couldn't order the shrimp set, but luckily they said we could still order grilled salted shrimp alongside the assorted sashimi! So without hesitation we ordered the small assorted sashimi + grilled salted shrimp + spicy fish stew haha.

Four pieces of raw shrimp sashimi, sweet and springy

Seeing how disappointed we were, they pulled out and prepared four pieces of raw shrimp sashimi for us before grilling the rest~! >_<

This was seriously… so sweet~~~!! 🦐

Bouncy texture with a subtle sweetness! It's really shrimp season, the plumpness was on another level!

🦐 Salted grilled shrimp

Except for the four we ate raw, the rest we cooked as grilled salted shrimp! The shrimp were literally flopping around!! Just seeing them move gave a strong sense of freshness haha. They grilled them golden brown on a bed of salt~

Nicely browned shrimp 🦐 peeling off the shell and taking a bite — grilled salted shrimp is just delicious~~~ haha. The salty seasoning with the plump shrimp meat!

The raw shrimp had a sweet, bouncy feel, while the grilled version was savory and clean — trying both, each had its own charm. If you're looking for a Hongdae sashimi bar, this menu combo seems like it'd be a hit!

🐟 Small assorted sashimi platter — enough for two

And now the main event, the small assorted sashimi!

The portion was plenty for two people! There were several kinds of fish arranged together, so it was fun picking one to try at a time.

I like eating sashimi together with baek-kimchi (white, non-spicy kimchi), so I put a slice on top of the kimchi and took a bite haha. This combo is just so good~~!! The sashimi itself was clean and fresh, and with the grilled shrimp on the table too, it felt pretty lavish :)

🍲 Spicy fish stew (maeuntang)

After sashimi, you've got to finish with spicy fish stew haha.

There were quite a lot of bean sprouts in the stew along with some fish meat, which was nice! Above all, the broth was so refreshing~~~

After the sashimi, having a spoonful of hot, spicy broth felt like the perfect way to wrap things up haha. Between the sashimi, the shrimp, and the stew, we were completely full!

I'd been to a different Eosa Chulto branch before haha, but this was my first time at the Hongdae branch! Visiting late meant there wasn't much shrimp left ㅠㅠ but since there was a way to order grilled salted shrimp together with the assorted sashimi, I got to enjoy both sashimi and shrimp, which was great~!>_<
