Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Seomyeon Branch: 3 minutes from Seomyeon Station

Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Seomyeon Branch is a dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew) and old-style fried chicken place 3 minutes on foot from Exits 4 and 6 of Seomyeon Station. It felt like it had been forever since I last had chicken, so I ran over for some after a long while 🏃🏻‍♀️💨 A place with generous drinking snacks and a filling meal all in one — Yetnal Tongdak & Tang was a solid pub-and-dinner spot in Seomyeon 🍗

Signboard and exterior of Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Seomyeon Branch

Even the signboard has that neighborhood favorite vibe, and this kind of cozy atmosphere just suits the food even more 〰︎︎ Eating old-style fried chicken and dakdoritang in such a homey setting really made it feel like a proper local spot.

Entrance with the restaurant name displayed

I liked that the name itself — Yetnal Tongdak & Tang — tells you exactly what kind of menu they serve!

Notice about the review event and dalgona game

Just so you know, joining the review event gets you fries or a drink on the house! You can also try the nostalgic dalgona candy game — succeed and you get a small order of fried chicken gizzards!

What we ordered and what it cost

  • Aetang (one dakdoritang + half old-style fried chicken) - ₩32,000
  • Rice - ₩1,000
Basic side dishes of cabbage salad, shrimp chips, and pickled radish

The basic side dishes were cabbage salad, shrimp chips and pickled radish, and surprisingly the shrimp chips got the most attention! Crunchy and addictive, I kept nibbling on them even before the main dish arrived, no idle mouth moment at all.

One pot of dakdoritang loaded with ingredients

One whole dakdoritang: broth that deepens as it simmers

꒰ Dakdoritang (one pot) ꒱ It wasn't just chicken — plenty of other ingredients too, making it good value with a generous portion.

Dakdoritang simmering on the gas burner

It started off clean-tasting and gradually deepened — the longer it simmered, the richer it got, and the flavors seemed to come together more with time 𓂃 There was a gas burner ready at the table, so I could keep it warm and simmering right to the end!

The broth had just the right thick consistency, with a bit of spiciness plus a touch of sweetness!

Glass noodles, rice cakes and quail eggs in the stew

Glass noodles come included as standard, so a noodle addict like me slurped those up first. Personally I prefer thin glass noodles over the flat kind, and here they used thin noodles, which soaked up the sauce nicely.

There were also long rice cakes in there — chewy texture with broth soaked in, which went really well together.

The chicken had no gamey smell and was cooked tender and juicy, easy to eat and soft.

Mixing a bowl of rice into the leftover broth

With dakdoritang, you've got to mix rice into the broth, right? … So I ordered rice too and polished off a bowl mixed right in 🍚

It's on the filling side, so it works great as a drinking snack but also as a proper dinner!

Half an old-style fried chicken, straight out of the fryer

꒰ Old-style fried chicken, half ꒱ The batter wasn't thick, so it felt light, and it looked golden with a savory aroma.

It came with salt and a seasoned sauce for dipping.

Salt and seasoned sauce served with the chicken

Fresh out of the fryer, the fried chicken was crispy outside and juicy inside, really tasty 🍗 I liked it even more because it wasn't too greasy.

Piece of old-style fried chicken dipped in seasoned sauce

It's tasty plain, but dip it deep into the seasoned sauce that comes with it and it turns sweet-and-salty, the kind of flavor that makes you polish off the very last piece.

You can enjoy dakdoritang and fried chicken together here, so if you're looking for a dakdoritang drinking snack or a good fried chicken spot in Seomyeon, this place is worth a visit!
