Where is Munhwa Bakery? 3 minutes from Jongno 3-ga Station Exit 7

Munhwa Bakery, a must-visit Ikseon-dong bakery, is about a 3-minute walk from Exit 7 of Jongno 3-ga Station. It's right in front of the heart of Ikseon-dong, so it's a great stop after a date in the neighborhood.

Walking toward Munhwa Bakery, I got a little excited just seeing the word 'bread' on a sign.. is that normal? Whenever I'm walking down the street and see the word bread, I always get a bit thrilled. Hahahahaha guess my bread-loving personality never changes! I just love bakeries. Hehe

Munhwa Bakery sells only bread baked the same day

Munhwa Bakery in Ikseon-dong only sells bread made that day, and any bread left unsold is apparently donated to underprivileged groups — children who lack meals, elderly people living alone, people with disabilities living at home, free meal centers, homeless shelters, social welfare facilities, and so on. What a wonderful thing for the owner to be doing — hope they work little and earn a lot!

Why go before 2pm, and why only two parties enter at once

Once you step inside, there's a display case full of delicious-looking bread. If you visit late, the bread you want might already be sold out, so I'd recommend visiting before 2pm if possible! Also keep in mind that the shop is small, so only two parties can enter at a time.

There was injeolmi bread (sweet rice cake bread), peanut bread, mugwort rice cake bread, cheese bread, squid-ink condensed milk bread, onion bagel, garlic bread, coffee bread, maple cream cheese bread, sweet potato bread, white bean paste bread, walnut bread, rice-chestnut bread, and more — all great-looking options.

On the left, I saw pre-packaged bread that people seemed to be picking up after calling ahead. Since the popular breads sell out fast, calling in advance to order seems like a good idea.

Buying just one onion bagel and one garlic bread

I simply picked up one onion bagel and one garlic bread. Even buying just a small amount, they packed the bread into a sturdy paper shopping bag like this, which I appreciated.

Onion bagel: sweet-and-salty cream cheese and onion

First, the onion bagel. There's cream filled inside the bagel, and the cream cheese, onion flavor, and sweetness all come together — if you like onions and sweet-salty bagels, this is a must-try. The cream cheese flavor isn't overpowering and is just salty and sweet enough that I think few people would dislike it.

Garlic bread: plenty of sauce on a chewy baguette

The garlic bread has a garlic-scented sauce generously spread inside — I think any Korean who loves garlic would enjoy it. The garlic sauce is sweet and the baguette is chewy, giving it great texture, and the overall combination worked so well that I was fully satisfied.

Is Munhwa Bakery in Ikseon-dong worth a stop?

I picked out and tried some bread at Munhwa Bakery, a must-visit Ikseon-dong bakery. Both the garlic bread and the onion bagel were delicious, making this one of my favorite Ikseon-dong bakeries. There are plenty of other breads too, so I'd really recommend everyone visit Munhwa Bakery in Seoul.
