Whenever you finish shopping at Starfield Goyang, there's always that one question: "What should we eat now?" Haha.

That day I didn't want anything vague — I wanted to properly grill meat on a hot plate. So I looked up spots near Starfield and ended up at Neopttakjip Samsong Branch.

Parking is available! There's a basement parking lot in the building.

Being near Samsong Station makes it easy to reach, and moving from Starfield Goyang to dinner isn't a hassle either, so it's a good spot to pair shopping with a dinner course.

What two of us ordered at Neopttakjip Samsong Branch, and what it cost

What we ate that day was very simple: 3 servings of pork belly + 2 bowls of rice + ramyeon (instant noodles)! Instead of ordering a bunch of random things, we focused on pork belly to really taste the Samsong-style samgyeopsal.

Even with 3 servings of pork belly plus rice, the total wasn't a heavy price overall. Given how expensive eating meat out has gotten these days, ₩16,000 per serving of pork belly is pretty reasonable for the Samsong area. Especially since costs add up fast when you eat around inside Starfield — in that sense, heading to a nearby Starfield-area restaurant when you really want proper meat was a good call.

Samgyeopsal at Neopttakjip: why the basic cut matters most

Instead of any specialty cuts, we ordered just 3 servings of plain pork belly.

At the end of the day, a BBQ place has to nail the basic pork belly if you're going to come back.

As the meat grilled, the grease drained straight down through the plate, so it tasted clean and satisfying, really delicious!

It had been a while since I had such a good meat dinner — my friend and I both said, "wow, we really ate well today!"

Some people just keep eating meat non-stop, but I'm firmly on Team Rice from about halfway through. Haha.

So we added 2 bowls of rice! At ₩1,000 a bowl, it was an easy add-on with no burden at all.

Put a well-grilled piece of pork belly on a spoonful of rice, and the rice perfectly balances the richness of the meat, making the meal that much more filling.

Especially paired with side dishes and sauces, the same pork belly kept tasting different each time, so I didn't get tired of it even down to the last piece.

Grabbing lettuce, ssamjang, and garlic from the self-serve bar and wrapping it all up properly — that's pure happiness.

Because of this, at BBQ places I tend to order rice before sides.

Finishing the meal with ramyeon

The meal that day wrapped up with ramyeon (instant noodles). I don't know why, but after pork belly you always crave a hot, spicy broth. Haha.

While the savory, rich taste of the pork belly still lingers in your mouth, a sip of ramyeon broth resets everything! It's really surprising how ramyeon still fits in even after all that rice too, haha. If you want to make meat the main event and finish with a soup, I'd recommend ordering ramyeon alongside it.

On those days, moving a bit further to grill pork belly and eat rice can be much more satisfying. So I'd recommend this as a Samsong spot that pairs nicely with shopping, all the way through dinner.

What satisfied me most that day was not ordering a bunch of random menu items and instead focusing on pork belly. Three servings of pork belly, two bowls of rice, and ramyeon at the end made for a pretty filling combo for two people, and it would work well for a group too, ordering extra as you go.
