Hapjeong café bamboo views and Sunny Garlic Pasta: Seowon Angil
In short
Seowon Angil Hapjeong is a large brunch café on Jandari-ro 3-gil in Mapo, Seoul, using both the first and second floors. Two of us ordered the Sunny Garlic Pasta for 19,000 won, the Herb Oil Plate for 19,000 won and the Truffle Mushroom & Balsamic Open Sandwich for 12,000 won, and ate at a second-floor window seat where bamboo fills the view. My junior colleague has been swamped raising two kids and working, so it had been a while since we grabbed brunch together in Hapjeong. We ended up at Seowon Angil Hapjeong.
I walked in thinking it was just a café, but it turned out to use both the 1st and 2nd floors, with a pretty wide brunch menu too — a solid option in Hapjeong when you want to handle a meal and a café visit in one go. The 2nd floor especially had bamboo and green trees visible through the full window, which made me forget for a moment that I was smack in the middle of Hapjeong.

Seowon Angil Hapjeong at a glance
💡 POINT — The green-view window seats on the 2nd floor are the top pick! From pasta to open sandwiches to brunch plates, the menu is varied, and it's a dog-friendly Hapjeong brunch café.
Finding Seowon Angil Hapjeong in a Hapjeong side street
Seowon Angil Hapjeong sits in an alley off Jandari-ro 3-gil in Mapo-gu, and the exterior alone was a bit distinctive. Long stretches of bamboo are planted in front of the fully glass-walled building, so even though it's a café in the middle of the city, the first impression is green.
At first I didn't think it'd be such a big café, but once inside, the space carried on from the 1st floor up to the 2nd floor, so it was bigger than expected. Hapjeong has plenty of cafés, but many of them have tight seating — this one had genuinely spacious layout, and that alone won me over.

First floor: order counter and café seats
Walk into the 1st floor and the order counter is right there. Beyond coffee, the brunch menu was quite varied — pasta, salad, open sandwiches, plates.

They also sold sourdough separately, and the fridge display case had cakes, drinks, even wine and beer. So it felt less like a typical coffee shop and more like a café combined with a brunch restaurant.

Sourdough loaves sold separately
What caught my eye in the 1st floor display case was the sourdough. The bread that comes with the brunch dishes is the same sourdough, and they sell it packaged too. If you like the bread after trying the brunch, it might be worth picking up a loaf to take home. It felt like more care went into the bread and food menu than at a coffee-only café.

Check the menu board for reference.

Can you bring a dog to Seowon Angil Hapjeong?
Dog rules and vaccination proof at the entrance
Seowon Angil is also a place where you can bring your dog. There's even a separate dog-companion notice at the entrance, spelling out the house rules in detail.
The in-store notice covered things like using a leash and being careful with seating, plus guidance on vaccination proof, so if you're visiting with a dog, it's worth checking the on-site rules ahead of time. I liked that it wasn't just a blanket 'pet-friendly' label — there was guidance for other guests too.
The 1st floor is spacious too, with a nice atmosphere.
What is the second floor of Seowon Angil Hapjeong like?
Head up the stairs and you reach the 2nd floor, which personally was my favorite part of Seowon Angil. So today's post will focus mostly on the upstairs.
The interior that greets you right at the top — gorgeous.
The 2nd floor was much bigger than I expected too. There's a long table, tables good for 2–4 people, sofa seating, window seats — the variety of seating is genuinely wide.
Not that I'd want to, but there's a table that looks perfect for sitting face-to-face in a meeting lol. I honestly spent a good chunk of time just looking at the tables haha.
It's not laid out so you can see the whole floor at a glance — walls and partitions divide the seats, so the mood shifts a bit from spot to spot.

There's also a big table good for groups, so it looks like a solid choice if you're hunting for a Hapjeong café to gather with friends. No regrets wherever you sit.

Vintage furniture and plants set the mood
One reason Seowon Angil stuck with me was the interior. It's not a space furnished with all-matching new pieces — instead, worn-looking wooden tables, mismatched chairs, and little props like paintings and mirrors are mixed freely. And there are a lot of big plants.

If it had just been exposed concrete and gray walls, it might have felt a bit cold, but the green plants scattered around softened the mood a lot. Every corner is a photo spot!! Even on the way to the restroom there's antique furniture like this...
The best seat: the second-floor window with a bamboo view
After a lot of deliberating, we ended up at a window seat on the 2nd floor. What made it great was that right outside the big window, bamboo and trees fill the view.
Even though Hapjeong is packed with buildings, looking out that window felt like gazing into a small garden. With sunlight pouring in too, photos came out pretty. It was a great seat for lingering over brunch and long conversation.
Even looking back at the photos now, it's healing haha. I recommend the window seat.
Our brunch order: three dishes for two people

That day, the two of us ordered the following three dishes at Seowon Angil.
- Sunny Garlic Pasta ₩19,000
- Truffle Mushroom & Balsamic Open Sandwich ₩12,000
- Herb Oil Plate ₩19,000
It was a pretty generous order for two people, but we wanted to sample a bit of everything, so we spread it out. Once all three landed on the table together, it looked exactly like proper brunch!
We skipped drinks since we planned to hit another hot café afterward. Once you're out, the rule is to hit at least two spots lol.

The food comes with a buzzer system — you go pick it up yourself when it rings.

Seowon Angil Hapjeong, a Hapjeong brunch café with a genuinely great atmosphere and pasta and plating this good too!! Textbook-perfect brunch vibes. Wow, who knew a place like this existed in Hapjeong.. huge respect to whoever built this place!!
Sunny Garlic Pasta, 19,000 won

First up, the Sunny Garlic Pasta at 19,000 won. From the photo alone it might look like a cream pasta, but instead of a thick, heavy cream sauce, it's more of a moist sauce pooled generously at the bottom.

Chunky garlic pieces are mixed throughout, with a generous grating of cheese on top. Garlic shows up all through the noodles, so garlic lovers especially will enjoy this one.

Brunch dishes alone can feel a bit light, but ordering a pasta alongside them made the meal feel properly substantial.

My junior insisted we absolutely had to get pasta.. and she must have liked it, because she demolished it in no time and said, 'Unnie, the portion here seems really generous too' hahahahaha.
Herb Oil Plate, 19,000 won

And then the Herb Oil Plate at 19,000 won — the most classically 'brunch' dish of the day, in my opinion.

A big plate arrives loaded all at once with avocado, scrambled eggs, grilled shrimp, cherry tomatoes, salad, and sourdough.
In the center comes a separate herb oil with garlic mixed in. I loved that there was a generous half an avocado, and the shrimp were sizeable too. With the tomatoes and salad, the whole plate looked great color-wise.

If you like brunch where you nibble a little of everything rather than focusing on one dish, this menu will suit you best. Piling avocado or scrambled egg onto the bread, then dipping into the herb oil, let us switch up the combinations, which was fun.
Truffle Mushroom & Balsamic Open Sandwich, 12,000 won

We ordered this one because we both love mushrooms, and honestly it might have been the most appetizing dish of the day.

A soft base is spread over sourdough, then piled generously with roasted mushrooms — to the point where there looked like more mushroom than bread. Where does the bread end and the mushroom begin, lol.

It wasn't just one type of mushroom either — several kinds with different shapes and textures were mixed in, topped with grated cheese. Baby greens and carrot slaw came alongside, which made for a nicer composition than a single open sandwich on its own. Recommended if you're into mushrooms.
Why Seowon Angil Hapjeong is worth a long brunch stay
At first I assumed Seowon Angil was just a large brunch café, but seeing it in person, the space itself turned out to be pretty compelling. With both the 1st and 2nd floors in use, there's a lot of seating, and the 2nd floor especially has a different mood depending on where you sit.
What I liked most was the 2nd floor seat with bamboo visible through the window. With pasta, open sandwiches, and plates all on offer, the food options are varied enough that it feels like a Hapjeong café worth visiting for brunch itself, not just coffee.
Recommended if you're grabbing brunch with a friend in Hapjeong, hunting for a spacious café for a group, or just want to spend a relaxed stretch of time looking out at a green view.
