Jung-gu gyukatsu restaurant, 39,000-won set for two: Ichigyu

In short

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a Japanese gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on basement level 1 of the LG Seoul Station Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, across from Exit 10 of Seoul Station. Arriving on a weekday after the lunch rush meant no wait, and the order was the Gyukatsu Basic set for two at 39,000 won plus two Zero Cokes, with the beef grilled slowly on the tabletop brazier in melted Isigny butter. The three dipping options at Ichigyu — wasabi with sauce, salt and chili sauce — went well with the fluffy rice, making it an easy Japanese meal to recommend near Seoul Station.

Exterior of the LG Seoul Station Building across from Seoul Station

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch sits in the basement level of the LG Seoul Station Building, right across from Seoul Station. It's extremely close to Exit 10, so access is great, and there are a lot of office buildings nearby, so it seems like a good lunch spot for office workers too.

Head down to B1 and you'll find Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch right next to a convenience store. ✔️If there's a wait, register on Catch Table. I went after the weekday lunch rush, so there was no wait.

Inside Ichigyu: seating and is solo dining okay?

Interior of Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch with tables set up

The interior itself isn't huge, but there are plenty of tables set up.

Seating mostly made up of 2-tops and 4-tops

Mostly 2-tops and 4-tops. There were a few people dining solo, and it didn't look bad for eating alone!

The back of the menu has the set menus, tips for eating gyukatsu deliciously, and an explanation of the three sauces.

After ordering, they turned on the burner for the brazier.

Rice for two served in a single bowl

Rice came out too, served as two portions in one bowl, so you just scoop out however much you want into your own bowl haha

Plate of the basic-size gyukatsu

@Gyukatsu Basic. Finally, today's main — the basic size gyukatsu, and the amount of meat is surprisingly generous.

How to grill the gyukatsu yourself in Isigny butter

You melt the provided French Isigny butter on the brazier, then grill the gyukatsu yourself.

Grilling gyukatsu on the butter-melted brazier

The gyukatsu comes out medium-rare, so you grill it to your own preference — I like mine a bit more cooked, so I grilled it deep.

How the wasabi, salt and chili sauce dips taste

First bite was with wasabi and sauce together — the wasabi and sauce cut right through the slight richness of the gyukatsu, a perfect combination ><

Gyukatsu and wasabi placed on top of rice

Gyukatsu + wasabi + rice. Eating it this way, a whole bowl of rice disappears in a flash — the rice was so fluffy and delicious it went even better with the gyukatsu.

Gyukatsu dipped in salt and chili sauce

Also dipped it in the salt and the chili sauce. The plain salt was a solid, easy match, and the chili sauce's sweet-tangy flavor brought out the gyukatsu's own taste even more.

Savory soup served alongside the gyukatsu

The savory soup that came alongside was also nice to sip on between bites of gyukatsu.

Final verdict on Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch

A quality Japanese gyukatsu spot. Right near Seoul Station, so I'd recommend Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch to anyone looking for a good restaurant near Seoul Station♡
