Gangneung café for pastry pizza bread after a beach swim: Baegya

In short

Baegya Coffee is an ocean-view bakery café spread over three floors right in front of Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung, open 9:00 to 21:00. After swimming with a toddler, the writer stopped in for pastry pizza bread, chestnut pastry, a matcha latte and Sanghamokjang ice cream while watching the sea through the window. High chairs and an elevator make Baegya Coffee an easy break with a child, though the rooftop is a no-kids zone.

While looking for a café to visit with my kid in Gangneung, I ended up at Baegya Coffee, right in front of Sageunjin Beach :) What makes this place special is that it's an ocean-view café directly on the water — you get to eat delicious bread while taking in the whole cool blue sea.

When you've come all the way to Gangneung, just sitting inside drinking coffee doesn't quite cut it — resting while looking at the sea is what makes it feel like a real trip, haha. We had bread and ice cream with our kid while lazily gazing out at the sea through the window 🌊 Hope this review helps!

Where is Baegya Coffee and what are its hours?

The ocean view straight onto Sageunjin Beach

One of the biggest reasons I chose Baegya Coffee was the ocean view. It's right in front of Sageunjin Beach, so the moment you step in you feel like you're right next to the sea.

On a nice day, you can enjoy coffee and bakery items while looking out at the blue water, which makes for a really great atmosphere. It's the perfect stop for a Gangneung trip — see the beach, then keep looking at it from the café, haha. I loved that this is a spot where you can properly enjoy an ocean view along with good bakery items.

What bread does Baegya Coffee bake, and what we chose

Baegya Coffee isn't just about the ocean view — the bakery selection is varied too, so I spent a while browsing as soon as I walked in. From basic pastries like salt bread and croissants to pies and various desserts, there was plenty to choose from depending on your taste.

We debated over what to get with our kid and ended up picking the pastry pizza bread and the chestnut pastry haha.

How the pastry pizza bread and chestnut pastry tasted

First, the pastry pizza bread! The signature flaky layers gave it a nice crisp texture, and being pizza bread, it was an easy pick to share with a kid. Great as a simple snack to split between us.

Then the chestnut pastry I picked 🌰 The crispy pastry combined with the sweet, nutty flavor of chestnut, and it paired really well with the matcha latte. Eating bread while looking at the sea somehow made it taste even better than usual café food, hahaha.

The matcha latte at Baegya Coffee

For a drink, I ordered a matcha latte. Paired with the sweet bakery items, matcha's characteristic bitterness balanced out the sweetness nicely.

Sanghamokjang ice cream for the toddler

And Sanghamokjang ice cream for my kid 🍦 As soon as it arrived, my kid was thrilled, happily eating bits of bread and ice cream haha.

Adults get to have a coffee looking at the sea while the kid enjoys a tasty snack — each of us doing our own thing! Having menu options for everyone made it a good café to visit with a child.

Seating and the feel of each floor at Baegya Coffee

What I really liked about Baegya Coffee is that it's not just about eating bread in the café — you get to spend time gazing at the sea. It's a large multi-floor café with a variety of seats, including spots facing the ocean, so it's great for a relaxed stay while soaking in the ocean view.

Gangneung especially has a sea that changes color and mood depending on the weather, so on a clear day, the view out the window basically becomes its own photo zone! Holding a cup of coffee while gazing at the sea feels like a proper little rest stop during the trip ☕️🌊

The rooftop is a no-kids zone: how was Baegya Coffee with a child?

The rooftop that opens up your mind is like this too! It runs as a no-kids zone. Sitting on the rooftop for a bit and looking out at the sea really made the Gangneung trip feel real!

They have high chairs and an elevator, so it was convenient to move around with a kid. Best of all, parents can have a coffee while looking at the sea, and the kid can rest with bread and ice cream — a great stop during a family trip haha.

If you're looking for a Gangneung ocean-view café where you can actually enjoy the sea rather than just drink coffee indoors, I recommend Baegya Coffee!
