I was craving tuna near Pyeongchon Station, and that led me to Chamchiya (참치야) in Anyang. The name itself screams tuna devotion, so I figured today was the day to really dig in.

What is Chamchiya like inside? A spacious, calm 2nd floor
Chamchiya sits on the 2nd floor of Samil Plaza, and the first thing I noticed walking in was that the place is bigger than I expected. Dim lighting mixed with wood-toned interiors gave it that calm, settled feel typical of a tuna restaurant, and there was enough space between tables to eat comfortably.

As the photos show, there's a section in the back suited for a bigger group, so it seemed like a good option for a work dinner or gathering.
Which tuna cuts come on the Chamchiya sashimi plate?
🍣 Time for the main event. The first thing that caught my eye at Chamchiya, of course, was the tuna.

The tuna sashimi wasn't just one cut — it came in several different cuts, so it was fun comparing them one by one. The colors alone were noticeably different, which made for good photos too. Tuna, as always, tasted best wrapped in seaweed with a touch of wasabi on top. The fattier cuts were rich and soft, while the leaner ones went down clean and light.

Sushi and squid mulhoe at Chamchiya
🍣 I tried the sushi too. Chamchiya's sushi lineup includes tuna, whitefish, shrimp and more, so there was plenty to pick based on your mood. Eating tuna nonstop, you eventually start craving something else, right? Personally, I loved alternating between tuna sashimi and a piece of sushi here and there.

One dish that personally stood out to me was the squid mulhoe (오징어물회, cold raw fish soup) — tangy and refreshing, with squid mixed in, a nice palate refresher between sashimi bites. After the cleaner flavors of tuna and the assorted sashimi, the squid mulhoe felt like a good reset for the tastebuds.
Having a dish like this alongside the sashimi made the meal feel a lot more varied instead of just sashimi after sashimi. If you're the type who eats sashimi as a drinking snack, the squid mulhoe would pair well on the side too.
Flying fish roe gimmari and other side dishes
🥢 This turned out to be better than expected. As the photos show, Chamchiya isn't a tuna-only kind of place.

There was a whole range of dishes — gimmari (seaweed rolls) topped with flying fish roe, a hoe-muchim (spicy mixed raw fish) style dish, and a squid-and-vegetable plate.

The flying fish roe dish in particular, with its popping texture, felt like a great way to wake up the palate before diving into the tuna.
Trying several kinds of sashimi in one order
Beyond tuna, there was also a dish combining several types of sashimi. Instead of eating just one kind over and over, being able to taste a bit of each felt like a good order when visiting with a group. Even in photos, the colors are quite varied — from the red of the tuna to the clean tones of the whitefish, the spread looked pretty appetizing all laid out together.
Why Chamchiya works for a group dinner, and how to find it
Visiting in person, Chamchiya felt less like a tuna-only restaurant and more like a place where you can enjoy tuna plus sushi plus sashimi plus a range of side dishes all together. That made it a good pick even for a mixed group of tuna lovers and people who aren't that into tuna, since there was enough variety to choose from.
The atmosphere in the restaurant also wasn't too bright or loud — more of a calm setting for having a drink and talking.
📌 The location was solid too. Chamchiya is near Pyeongchon Station, making it convenient to head somewhere else afterward for round two. If you're near Pyeongchon Station looking for a tuna restaurant or a spot for an evening group dinner, this one's worth checking out.

Today's one-line review — "Not just a tuna spot, but a place where you can enjoy a wide range of sashimi and sushi together."
If you're into tuna, you probably get the vibe just from the photos, right? I got to try a bit of everything that day — tuna, sushi, and all kinds of side dishes. If you're near Pyeongchon Station and craving tuna sometime, Chamchiya is worth a look 😊
