Scallion cream cheese at Nani Byeolgwan, a Yeongdeungpo izakaya

In short

Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch is an izakaya in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, sitting halfway between Yeongdeungpo Market Station and Yeongdeungpo Station. As a second-round stop, the order was pork and bean sprout stir-fry at 22,000 won and a side of scallion cream cheese with crackers at 13,000 won, washed down with Jinro soju, and the scallion cream cheese was good enough to finish alone. Bar seats sit apart from the dim table seats, so Nani Byeolgwan works for solo drinks and for meeting friends alike.

Looking for a light second-round drink in Yeongdeungpo, I found Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch, an izakaya sitting right between Yeongdeungpo Market Station and Yeongdeungpo Station — easy to reach whether you're coming from Line 1 or Line 5.

How are the seats divided at Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch?

The interior of Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch is basically split into two spaces — first there's the bar seating! Couples or friends who want to sit side by side and chat tend to sit here, as do solo drinkers.

From what I could tell, it's not a solo-drinking-only bar, but there's a bit of casual socializing among solo drinkers here and there. If a hunting-style solo bar feels too much, this seems like a good spot for people who just want to drink alone in peace or have the occasional small talk.

Further inside there are table seats, which feel a bit darker and more suited to sitting with friends and talking about whatever comes up! The soft lighting makes for a really nice mood, and the cabinet-style interior detail on the back wall was classy and I loved it. Kind of gave off a Harry Potter (?) vibe.

What is on the menu at Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch?

The menu at Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch is divided into skewers & fried items / seafood & noodles / sides. There's a good variety, with both heavy mains and light sides, so it works well as a first stop or as a second or third round bar.

I heard a lot of izakaya places these days just heat up retort-packaged dishes, but this Yeongdeungpo izakaya has a chef with 15 years of cooking experience who makes everything from scratch with fresh ingredients, so no worries there about freshness or flavor.

Here's how the drinks menu is set up. Everything from typical soju and beer to various izakaya-style sake! Prices are varied and not too pricey, so you can drink without much burden.

Jinro soju bottle placed on the table

We just kept going with the jinro soju we'd been drinking on our first round, haha. Eating the cabbage that supposedly lowers blood sugar, I like to believe it stops whatever I eat next from being absorbed, haha (copium).

And then the side dishes came out fast! Pork and bean sprout stir-fry for 22,000 won. A typical izakaya menu item. The portion is pretty huge, haha.

It's a nicely balanced spicy-sweet-salty, and above all the pork was tender and delicious. Also, personally I'm obsessed with bean sprouts so I'm picky about how well-cooked they are — these were cooked just enough to keep their crunch, nice. In between there was a burst of chili aroma too, with just the right amount of heat mixed in, spicy and delicious.

Scallion cream cheese and crackers, 13,000 won: the side I finished on my own

And then the side dish, scallion cream cheese and crackers for 13,000 won. Literally, I ate the whole thing by myself; ;; my friend said she didn't want any for some reason I don't remember, so I thought oh even better~ and dug in, but by the time we'd finished a whole bottle of soju, I really had eaten every last bit without missing any ;; my friend hadn't had even a single piece. Am I insane? Human?

But... I ate the cabbage first... so it's fine...

Yeah. That's right. It's true.

But seriously, this was SO good ;;; I'd had cream cheese with chives on a bagel before, but cream cheese with scallions and crackers? First time — and it's just an insane combination. Please, just order it, it's so good...

And on top of it, my friend spread all the cream cheese even though she wasn't eating any of it, so I could just pick it up effortlessly and finish it in no time... th-thank you...

Is Nani Byeolgwan worth a second-round stop in Yeongdeungpo?

Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch has that combo of side dishes where the soju just keeps going down smoothly — honestly every single dish was delicious and the portions were generous, so it was really good.

By the way, the bathroom is inside and it's clean, which I really appreciated. For us ladies, bathroom cleanliness matters haha, so I was very satisfied~~ Great mood, delicious food — this was my review of Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch, a Yeongdeungpo izakaya. That's it!
