I took my 17-month-old on a campus tour of Seoul National University. Since we went by public transit, the little one rode a bus for the first time in a stroller — an unforgettable experience. After the tour, we had dinner at Kosi, a well-known spot near Seoul National University Entrance Station. I'd eaten at Kosi's Seongsu branch before and remembered it being delicious.

Seoul National University campus tour with a 17-month-old: riding the bus with a stroller
Touring a university campus is always on the bucket list once you have kids. This time we went to Seoul National University. We got off at Seoul National University Entrance Station and rode bus 5511 there — a moment with a lot of mixed emotions.

After the campus tour, we rode bus 5511 back to Seoul National University Entrance Station. I thought boarding with a stroller would be easy, but it turns out you need two adults to manage it. Still, for a baby who says "bus bus" every time one passes, it made for a special memory.

We had dinner at Kosi, a 3-minute walk from Seoul National University Entrance Station. My little one runs and rolls around everywhere, so we always eat dinner before the subway ride home to keep things calm.

What kind of restaurant is Kosi on Sharosu-gil?
Kosi Seoul National University Entrance Branch, a favorite on Sharosu-gil, is a directly-run and well-managed location of Kosi. It just opened, but the Seongsu and Konkuk branches already have waits.

What three of us ordered at Kosi, and what it cost
- Handmade katsudon: ₩11,000
- Toriton sanuki noodle bukkake udon: ₩11,000
- Fresh pork loin tonkatsu: ₩11,500
- Zero cola: ₩2,000
Kosi is great for a reasonably priced meal out with a kid, for the three of us.

Toriton sanuki noodle bukkake udon, 11,000 won: cold udon worth ordering
Kosi's signature dish is, of course, the udon. They make their own sanuki udon noodles fresh every dawn. The noodles are incredibly chewy and springy! We ordered the cold udon topped with chicken tempura.
You pour tsuyu (dipping sauce) over it. The little dishware is so neat and pretty that eating a bowl of udon just feels good. So much effort goes into these handmade noodles that once you've tried them, ordinary udon just won't cut it anymore.

Kosi's sanuki udon is already a crowd-pleaser and a great dish to try. When I visited the Seongsu branch before, just my kid and I, I had the small hot udon that came with a tonkatsu set — but this cold bukkake udon is even better!

With inari sushi (fried tofu rice pouches) and chicken tempura alongside, it's a meal with a good balance of carbs, protein and fat.

Handmade katsudon, 11,000 won: the filling rice bowl
Kosi near Seoul National University Entrance Station prices its handmade katsudon (fried pork cutlet rice bowl) very reasonably. At ₩11,000, with a thick cutlet, it's a great pick when you want a hearty, satisfying rice meal. Katsudon itself — onions sautéed with soy sauce, a bit of sugar, and egg — is hard to get wrong.

I used to make katsudon at home, so ordering it while eating out with my kid felt like a treat. Haha, such a nostalgic dish.

Fresh pork loin tonkatsu, 11,500 won: the dish the 17-month-old ate most
Kosi's crispy tonkatsu is famous. The pork loin cutlet is thick and superb. Last time I had the loin-and-mozzarella set, which was delicious, but it was sold out this time, so we just ordered the loin. This is the dish our 17-month-old, Hajun, devoured the most.
You can enjoy it three ways — a dab of salt, a dab of wasabi, or the house special sauce. With meat this good, the salt combo is truly delicious. Best of all, it's domestic pork loin, so I could feed it to my kid without worry. Any parent looking at the quality of this meat would get it.

Why Kosi works for dinner with a baby
If you stop by Kosi Seoul National University Entrance Branch, note that they have all the baby dishware you'd need. The pork loin tonkatsu is a hit with kids too, so it's a reliably good meal any time. Enjoy your Seoul National University campus tour and finish it off with a solid meal here. ♥
