Dinner couple set at a Songpanaru sushi restaurant: Susi Seon Bangi

In short

Susi Seon Bangi Branch is a 13-year-old sushi and handmade pork cutlet restaurant in the Bangi-dong dining alley in Songpa, Seoul, 468m from Exit 2 of Songpanaru Station. On a second visit after work with a partner, the couple set (38,000 won) came out course by course: porridge, spicy cold noodles, a wooden board of sushi, and a mixed platter of cheese roll katsu and mince ball katsu. One set filled up two people, making Susi Seon Bangi Branch a genuinely good-value Japanese spread.

Susi Seon Bangi Branch is a Japanese restaurant in the Bangi-dong dining alley that serves sushi alongside handmade pork cutlets. Here's my story of the neat sushi and mixed cutlets I enjoyed in the Bangi-dong alley.

With the cool early autumn breeze blowing, I was especially craving a clean Japanese-style meal. My memories from last time were good, so I headed back toward the Bangi-dong alley with my partner. It was perfect weather to stop by casually on the way home from work and grab dinner!

What comes with the 38,000-won couple set at Susi Seon Bangi Branch?

Since it was my second visit, my expectations for the food lineup were even higher. The couple set comes out so generously — from the pre-meal porridge to sushi, mixed pork cutlets, and warm noodles — that the price barely seems believable. Usually the fried items that come with a set are on the light side, but here they give you cheese roll katsu and hefty ball katsu that hold their own against ordering them à la carte.

The portions were plentiful enough that we both left patting our full bellies, so if you want great value and a filling meal at once, the couple set is hard to beat! It's such a well-rounded course that lets you taste a variety of handmade dishes at once, I'd recommend it without hesitation to first-time visitors too~~~

A cozy neighborhood spot in Bangi-dong

Inside, warm wood-tone tables for four and side-by-side counter seats are neatly arranged. The seating overall isn't cramped, so it was really nice whether eating alone or sitting and chatting with someone else!

After sitting down and ordering the couple set, the first things to arrive were a warm, soft porridge and a spicy, tangy bibim guksu (mixed cold noodles).

The bibim guksu was so refreshing mixed in with the vegetables that it was perfect for lightly waking up the appetite before the meal.

Next, freshly hand-pressed sushi arrives neatly laid out on a long wooden board, with a really well-balanced ratio of rice to fish.

Sushi topped with salmon, shrimp, and tuna

Maybe because everything is made by hand with care, the light, savory flavor of the salmon, shrimp, and especially the tuna sushi that melted smoothly lingered all through my mouth! The shrimp in particular is prepared and steamed in-house, showing a noticeably different quality from other places.

Just as we were finishing the sushi, the pork cutlets included in the set arrived — not a light side dish but a full mixed platter with cheese-stuffed roll katsu and mince ball katsu. Freshly fried, the crispy batter kept the savory cheese and juicy meat inside intact, making for a really fun texture to bite into.

Other things worth knowing

The sushi, fried items, and noodle dish are set out one after another like a course, so nothing gets cold — everything stays warm throughout the meal.

Just ordering one set was enough for the two of us to enjoy without feeling short-changed — the overall portion and balance of food was really solid! The staff were quiet but attentive, so the whole meal felt very comfortable.
