Alley coffee shop in Wangsimni with a letter wall: Nerdy Blue Burrow

In short

Nerdy Blue Burrow is a deep-blue cafe tucked inside an alley in Wangsimni, Seongdong, Seoul, and the second space from house cafe Nerdy Blue, which has been running since 2017. One cold brew and two milk teas were sipped slowly on a sofa seat, surrounded by walls packed with letters and memos plus LPs and vintage props. For anyone who wants coziness instead of a big cafe, Nerdy Blue Burrow is the right fit.

Nerdy Blue Burrow, a Wangsimni cafe for quietly staying put. I was walking through the alleys of Wangsimni looking for somewhere to rest for a bit, and that's how I ended up at Nerdy Blue Burrow!

It wasn't a flashy, elaborately decorated cafe from the start — instead, every corner naturally gave off the feeling of wanting to linger.

The name of the cafe, 'Burrow,' actually has a fun meaning behind it — it's taken from the Burrow, Ron's home in Harry Potter. A warm space where you feel at ease the moment you step in. Once I heard that was the concept, the name made even more sense the more I looked around.

Where is Nerdy Blue Burrow? Inside a Wangsimni alley

Nerdy Blue Burrow sits tucked inside an alley in Wangsimni. It's said to be the second space from house cafe Nerdy Blue, which has been running since 2017, and it definitely has a personality distinct from your typical franchise cafe.

Rather than a big cafe that catches your eye from the street, it sits quietly inside the alley, which actually made it more fun to discover.

Open the door and the first thing you notice is the deep blue color wrapping the entire cafe. Blue walls, wood-toned floors, and warm lighting come together to create an atmosphere that's calm yet oddly cozy.

What makes the interior of Nerdy Blue Burrow so unusual

Personally, the interior atmosphere of Nerdy Blue Burrow was the most impressive part. One wall is packed with small letters and memos that seem to have been left by guests, and LPs, vintage props, and drawings are scattered throughout.

Instead of identical props arranged neatly, each item felt different and naturally blended together, which made it fun just to look around.

The letters covering the wall were especially memorable. To some they might just be little scribbles, to others a record of time spent here — but seeing them pile up one by one seemed to be exactly what gives this cafe its atmosphere.

Maybe that's why, even on a first visit, it didn't feel like a newly opened cafe at all, but more like a space where people had been coming and going, building up time, for a long while!

Sofa seats and the deep blue door

The slightly dim lighting, paired with warm standing lamps, made it a good atmosphere for sitting quietly alone or chatting with a friend. The area with the sofa in particular had a really great vibe.

Deep blue walls, brown-toned sofas, yellow cushions and soft lighting came together into a space that made me want to lean back and slowly sip a cup of coffee. When taking photos, it wasn't just one spot that looked pretty — every direction had a slightly different mood, making it a great space for photos too!

The deep blue door near the entrance was also memorable. Even the door matched the overall mood of the cafe so well that from the moment I walked in, I felt 'this place is a little different from a typical cafe.'

How do the cold brew and milk tea taste?

That day's order was 1 cold brew and 2 milk teas. Nerdy Blue Burrow is said to specialize especially in cold brew and hand drip coffee.

Cold brew steeped slowly over a full day, and hand drip coffee that takes a few minutes just for a single cup. I liked the cafe's direction of taking its time with coffee rather than churning drinks out quickly.

The cold brew was cold and clean, great to drink on its own, and the milk tea was soft and went nicely alongside it. If you love coffee, the cold brew or hand drip here are worth trying properly, and if you prefer something softer than coffee, the milk tea is delicious too!

A Wangsimni cafe where slowing down is fine

Like a line written on the cafe's wall, Nerdy Blue Burrow felt less like a place you drink coffee and leave, and more like a place to rest for a while.

A spot a little removed from the loud, busy Wangsimni alleys, where you can listen to music, drink a cup of coffee, and chat with a friend. Thanks especially to the vintage props, warm lighting, and deep blue color creating such a distinctive atmosphere, the time spent there itself stuck with me.

It has a charm quite different from the big or sleek new cafes that are common in Wangsimni. If you love a quiet, cozy cafe atmosphere, it might be worth slowly enjoying a cup of coffee at Nerdy Blue Burrow.
