🍰 Eojil In, the Wangsimni Station café — I'm obsessed (?) with the Basque cheesecake here and keep going back. My regular spot after five-plus visits 🤎 (some paid for myself, some this time gifted — details below!!)

Why I keep going back to Eojil In Wangsimni Station Branch

Eojil In wasn't a place I found myself — a friend I really love introduced it to me (funnily enough, we just met up again yesterday after a while ♡). One bite of the Basque cheesecake, aka "batchike," and I was like "wait, what is this place?" I've been going almost obsessively ever since lol

(My personal #1 Basque cheesecake spot) I've tried a lot of other places, but this is the one that suits my taste best!!!! (just my personal preference, fyi) I bought the whole cake for a friend's birthday,

packed one for a hospital visit too, and even brought a whole cake to an omakase dinner 🎂 (shared it with the chefs and the friends I went with)

I've also gone pretty often with friends and my younger friends (these are photos from earlier visits lol). And this time — a store-collaboration visit!!! Thank you so much to the owner ♡♡♡

That's how much this place has become — not just "a café in Wangsimni" but somewhere I go to naturally whenever it crosses my mind ♡♡♡

What ten years in Europe taught me about choosing a café

Maybe because I lived five years each in Italy and Germany, ten years total in Europe, I tend to care as much about a café's atmosphere as its taste.

When I used to go to cafés in Europe, I always preferred the ones that weren't flashy or over-decorated but felt comfortable to sit in for a long time, with a warm feeling to the space itself — and Eojil In has exactly that vibe. Rather than a deliberately styled "aesthetic café," it's wood-tone furniture plus soft lighting plus cozy seats, all together — good for chatting with a friend, and equally comfortable for drinking coffee alone!

And on top of that, since it spans two floors, the space feels more spacious than you'd expect.

Inside Eojil In: from the 1st floor to the 2nd

Right from the entrance, warm lighting greets you. Step inside and the dessert showcase catches your eye first — cakes to baked goods, quite a variety, so every time I come I end up wondering "what should I eat today?" lol (gives me serious decision paralysis lol)

The photos above are from last night, a weekday evening... (most of the baked goods were sold out ㅠㅠ slim pickings). The staircase up to the 2nd floor is also a low-key highlight of Eojil In!!

The 2nd floor feels a bit cozier and more relaxed, with several different seating styles — from spots good for chatting with friends to quiet corners for sitting alone. Personally I love this slightly attic-like, cozy atmosphere.

The real reason I come to Eojil In: the Basque cheesecake

Eojil In's Basque cheesecake is ₩5,900 — the very menu item that got me hooked on this café in the first place. The outside is baked a bit dark, the inside soft and dense, cheesecake-style. Not too sweet, just the right sweetness, with a thick, rich cheese flavor ♡♡♡♡

When people ask "where's a good Basque cheesecake?", this is one of the places that comes to mind naturally.

New at Eojil In: the Dojima roll

A happy discovery on this visit! The Dojima roll 🤍 I originally came for the Basque cheesecake, but once I heard it was new, how could I not try it too lol. So this time I ordered

That's what I ordered. The Dojima roll is a fluffy roll cake with cream layered inside — a totally different charm from the Basque cheesecake. The whipped cream is so good. You have to try it 😭 Eojil In really knows desserts, I'm convinced ♡

Eating them side by side — soft Dojima roll vs. dense Basque cheesecake. And of course coffee pairs perfectly with dessert ☕️ It's also great that you can go for decaf iced Americano on days you want to cut back on caffeine.

Last time I ordered the café milk bowl at Eojil In

On a previous visit I also tried Eojil In's signature café milk bowl, and this was seriously delicious too 🤎

It's espresso with milk topped with a generous scoop of soft milk ice cream 🍦, and the bitterness of the coffee pairs perfectly with the sweet, smooth ice cream. Personally I also recommend the Basque cheesecake + café milk bowl combo! There really is a reason I keep coming back over and over and over... ☕️🍰

Eojil In cakes as gifts for birthdays and hospital visits

Another reason I've visited Eojil In so many times: it's great for packing to go. You know those days when it's awkward to show up empty-handed, like a friend's birthday or a hospital visit? Bringing one of their cakes makes you feel weirdly thoughtful lol (and everyone genuinely said it was delicious lol). They have pretty dessert boxes like in the photo, too

There's also a good variety of baked goods, so it works well as a light gift too.

How busy is Eojil In at 8pm on a Tuesday?

Yesterday, a Tuesday around 8pm, I went to Eojil In and it was seriously packed lol. The 1st floor had a good number of people, and the 2nd floor was buzzing too. I knew Eojil In was popular, but there were barely any seats left, so I had to grab a spot fast lol — even hard to take photos 📷 😢

When I visited on a weekday during the day before, it was much more relaxed — I remember sitting quietly with coffee and dessert. So if you want a quieter atmosphere, I'd personally recommend a weekday daytime visit.

Eojil In Wangsimni Station Branch is located at 18 Majo-ro 9-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on the 1st and 2nd floors. It's close to Wangsimni Station and easy to get to, and it's a two-story café that's great for enjoying coffee and dessert together.

Eojil In is more of a Wangsimni café to enjoy alongside dessert than one to just grab coffee at ☕️🍰 The signature item, and the one that first won me over, is the Basque cheesecake at ₩5,900! It's made with Philadelphia cream cheese and dairy whipping cream, giving it that dense, rich style. If you like Basque cheesecake, it's worth trying at least once 🤎

They also just launched the Dojima roll at ₩5,800, which I tried this time — a fluffy roll cake with soft cream, a completely different charm from the Basque cheesecake! Besides that, there's also

They also have a whole Basque cheesecake for ₩24,600, great for wrapping up as a gift for birthdays or special occasions 🎁 I've personally bought it as a whole cake several times for friends' birthdays, hospital visits, and gatherings!

And here's one important point ☝🏻 — go late and popular desserts may already be sold out lol. This time I went in the evening and a lot of the desserts were gone 🥲 On the plus side, the menu doesn't feel fixed — new desserts keep getting added, so it's a little different every time you visit, which is part of the fun!

🚗 Free parking is available on the ground floor of the row house, up to 2 cars. If it's full, you can use the E-Mart parking lot right next door (I actually parked on the row house's ground floor during an earlier weekday visit lol)

There's a Little Eojil In now too?

As someone who loves Eojil In, I only just found out that a smaller Eojil In branch has also opened near Wangsimni Station lol

This location has a slightly different menu lineup from the original — croissants, salt bread, nurungji (scorched rice) baguette, fig cream cheese baguette, choco baguette — quite a variety of breads!!! I'm especially a baguette fanatic 👀🥖 so there's no way I'm skipping the nurungji baguette or the fig cream cheese baguette lol. Next time I'm in Wangsimni, I'm definitely covering the mini Eojil In too 😆🤎
