Late-night mackerel sashimi trio near Nonhyeon Station: Sanhocho
In short
Sanhocho Nonhyeon is a raw fish bar near exit 3 of Nonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul, with an open-air late-night feel serving mackerel, flounder, and squid sashimi. Three friends visited on a Thursday at 9:30pm and shared the most popular 3-type sashimi set — half a live mackerel, big flounder, and half a live squid — topped over salted gimbap and sushi rice. The mackerel sashimi had zero fishy smell, so a return visit is definitely happening.

Today I went for drinks at Sanhocho, a raw fish bar in Sinnonhyeon. This place sells mackerel sashimi, yellowtail, live shrimp and all sorts of seafood in a great atmosphere — and I especially enjoyed the mackerel sashimi in the 3-type sashimi set. Let's get right into the review of this delicious sashimi~~~

This is the entrance to Sanhocho. The store is open-air, giving off a real late-night street-stall feel, and the atmosphere is so good the drinks just keep going down. The place is also huge and clean, and the service was flawless too.

The pick-your-own 3-type sashimi set
The pick-your-own 3-type sashimi set includes mackerel sashimi, tuna belly, pattern squid, big flounder, red seabream, big sea bass, and spring flounder — you pick whichever three you want. It seems like a great restaurant for friends with different tastes to negotiate over. All three of us had no strong opinions, so ironically it was hard to choose haha

We ordered the most popular 3-type sashimi menu. Price — ₩81,000. We chose half a live mackerel, big flounder, and half a live squid. They were out of live shrimp so we couldn't have that — it's live shrimp season so it's super popular. There's an extra charge of ₩4,000 for flounder and squid (₩2,000 each).

The scene at 9:30pm on a Thursday night
We visited at 9:30pm, and even though it was a Thursday, there were a lot of people. I think it's because the weather was cool and the atmosphere was so good.

Does mackerel sashimi smell fishy?
Ta-da, here comes the mackerel sashimi, squid, and big flounder. The visuals are truly gorgeous. Mackerel sashimi is something you have to eat at a place that knows what they're doing, because it can be fishy — it's a love-it-or-hate-it fish. Here there was zero fishy smell and it was so fresh that I immediately understood why people come to this restaurant and why it's so crowded, the moment I tasted this mackerel sashimi.
The big flounder and pattern squid we ordered alongside were also fresh and chewy, perfect as a drinking snack. I lost count of how many bottles we drank that night... thanks to this 3-type sashimi it was a happy time ❣️ The squid was sweet too, must be in season. So delicious~~

Adding salted gimbap and sushi rice
We added salted gimbap (salted seaweed rice roll) and sushi rice to eat with the mackerel! Salted gimbap is ₩4,000, sushi rice is ₩2,000!! If you enjoy putting sashimi on rice like sushi, you'll really love this.

Today's spread 😆 Salted squid, silkworm pupae, mung bean sprouts, sushi rice, seaweed, and seasoned salad are the side dishes that come with the 3-type sashimi order. The side dishes were also clean and tasty, and went really well with the sashimi.

I put mackerel sashimi on the salted gimbap and also on the sushi rice, and every single bite was delicious — it reminded me of the mackerel sashimi I had in Jeju Island.
Met up with friends and had a happy drink — for someone like me who finds relieving work stress with delicious food the happiest thing, I really recommend Sanhocho Nonhyeon. The sashimi is really fresh and delicious haha. I'm so, so willing to come back to this Sanhocho raw fish bar, and I'll visit again next time. It was delicious!
