Sashimi pub in a Suyeong market alley, Busan: banchan and soju
In short
Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap is a sashimi pub inside the market alley near Suyeong Station in Busan. On the second evening of a couple's Busan trip, they ordered the small assorted sashimi platter, a kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) with octopus for 10,000 won and a bottle of Busan soju, and the free banchan spread arrived loaded with sweet potato, acorn jelly, doraji (bellflower root) salad and corn salad. Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap will also leave the sancho pepper powder and perilla leaf out of the maeuntang (spicy fish stew) on request, which suits anyone who cannot handle strong herbs.

Where is Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap, the sashimi pub near Suyeong Station in Busan?
Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap is a sashimi bar you can find easily by stepping just a little into the market alley near Suyeong Station in Busan. We visited in the evening and there were customers of all ages — lots of them!
When you're traveling you gotta eat well, right~~ My husband carried heavy luggage all day, so I wanted him to eat something good with a drink and shake off the fatigue~~ So we visited this solid sashimi spot in Suyeong!
What we ordered at Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap
Once we sat down and ordered, the banchan (side dishes) started coming out one by one!

My husband loves Chum Churum soju, but they didn't have it here, so he tried a bunch of different ones — in the end he says Chamisul or Chum Churum are still the best haha. We had Daesun yesterday, so today was a good chance to try more Busan soju as an experience!

I wanted a drink too,, first sip with fresh sashimi has gotta be somaek (soju-beer mix), right,, let's come back again and drink together.. the side dishes are so good~~

What comes in the free banchan spread?
The banchan at Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap gives you plenty to drink to before the sashimi even arrives. Apparently in Busan, crab and sashimi restaurants serve sweet potato as a side dish? haha The sweet potato here was even better than the one we had yesterday!
The acorn jelly, doraji (bellflower root) salad, and corn salad were all delicious too~~ Great as appetizers before the sashimi comes out!

Such a generous banchan spread! For side-dish maniacs like me who check the banchan first when picking a sashimi restaurant, this matters a lot ⭐️

Is the small assorted sashimi platter enough for two?
The small assorted sashimi platter at Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap was a decent amount for two people to share. Busan soju with Busan sashimi ~! Really feeling Busan right now ~~ The platter had flounder, halibut, rockfish? I don't remember exactly, but anyway it was all white fish, so my husband, who's a white-fish guy, gave it his approval ~~

Chewy, fresh assorted sashimi! It's the small size but a good amount for two! We also ordered the kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) so the sashimi didn't feel skimpy. I'd recommend the small platter with kimchi jeon over the medium platter haha

Free from the heavy luggage every evening after lugging it around all day ㅜㅜ It's basically a march for my husband on this Busan trip, so time for some healthy protein!! We both worked hard and had fun today, so good food and a drink for us ~!

It was a lively, buzzing atmosphere with a lot of people drinking after work, and sashimi as an evening drinking snack seems like the best choice haha. It's healthy and light so it feels weirdly reassuring haha. The freshness of the sashimi especially stood out — great!

The 10,000 won kimchi jeon with octopus
For just ₩10,000, a crispy kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) with octopus in it! It's seasoned well enough that you don't even need soy sauce, and it's the perfect drinking snack,,
At some point I started loving eating sashimi and jeon together, so we ordered it and it did not disappoint! Great to eat alongside sashimi and drinks~

Asking for maeuntang without sancho pepper powder or perilla leaf
Apparently most maeuntang (spicy fish stew) in Busan comes with sancho pepper powder and perilla leaf in it?!?!?! My husband and I both really, REALLY don't like spices or strong distinctive aromas, so when we ordered the maeuntang we asked in advance for them to leave those out! And then the maeuntang flavor we're used to showed up~! If you can't handle cilantro or spices, definitely ask them to leave it out!
Regular vs wild-caught assorted sashimi: what's the difference?
There are two types of assorted sashimi platter — regular and wild-caught? The regular one is the white fish in the photo, and apparently the other platter includes bream varieties too! The price difference is ₩5,000–10,000! If you like basic sashimi, go with the regular assorted platter ~~

A Busan date course that continues on to Gwangalli
From Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap it's about a 3-4 minute walk to the bus stop? Super close ~~ You can take one bus straight to Busan Station or Gwangalli Beach, so this makes a perfect spot for a Busan date course too~~?
Drinks at Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap, then over to Gwangalli Beach for round two! Today was another full, satisfying day ~ Busan trips are the best ~
