The mornings and evenings are getting cooler, so it finally feels like real autumn. And with Chuseok right around the corner, I've been in a strangely festive mood. Before the holiday started, I wanted a hearty lunch with my family, so today I went to try the lunch course at Macheonchwi, a Chinese restaurant in Daejeon!

Why we chose Macheonchwi for a family lunch

When the question is "what should we eat today?", Chinese food is usually what makes the whole family happy. So while looking for a Chinese restaurant around Dunsan-dong and Mannyeon-dong in Daejeon, I settled on Macheonchwi. Hearing they had an affordable lunch course had me excited.

Inside Macheonchwi: the room and the side dishes

Walking in, a calm and tidy atmosphere greeted us first. Group seating was available and there was even a kids' chair, so both adults and kids were comfortable, and parking made it perfect for a family outing. After we sat down, the side dishes came out — tangy pickled radish and crunchy pickles that woke up our appetites.

This time we ordered the Lunch A Course! Each dish came out slowly, one at a time, so we could enjoy the meal at a relaxed pace.

1️⃣ Salad

The course starts with a refreshing vegetable salad. The sprouts on top were a pleasure to look at first, and the tangy flavor really opened up our appetite.

2️⃣ Crab meat soup

When the soft, warm crab soup arrived, our stomachs settled right away. A spoonful of hot soup really suited the cool autumn weather.

3️⃣ Ryusanseul (stir-fried seafood and vegetables)

Ryu sansul (stir-fried seafood and vegetables) — a dish combining seafood and vegetables! The thick, smooth sauce and generous ingredients gave it a real course-meal feel. It genuinely felt like we were at a fancy Chinese restaurant. ✨

4️⃣ Chili shrimp

Chili shrimp with a sauce that's sweet, tangy, and spicy all at once. Both the kids and adults had chopsticks flying. 🦐

5️⃣ Sweet and sour pork

You can't visit a Chinese restaurant without sweet and sour pork! The crispy batter paired with the sweet-and-sour sauce, and the kids especially loved it. It wasn't greasy at all, so it was easy to keep reaching for more. Everyone's chopsticks were busy. 😋

6️⃣ Main dish: jjajangmyeon or jjamppong

The final dish of the course lets you choose between jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup). After some thought, I picked the spicy jjamppong while my family went with jjajangmyeon. Sharing a bite of each other's dish was half the fun. 🍜

7️⃣ Ice cream for dessert

We finished off with sweet ice cream! After the spicy broth, the cool dessert cleaned our palates nicely. 🍨

Was the Lunch A Course filling enough?

What satisfied me most was the portion sizes. Even though each dish came out slowly and we ate at a leisurely pace, the portions were more generous than expected, and we all felt full by the end.

With this kind of lineup and atmosphere, this is a lunch course I'd happily recommend among Chinese restaurants in Daejeon.

It would also suit family gatherings, marriage meetings, or occasions with elders, so it could be a good pick for anyone looking for an upscale Chinese restaurant or a private room in Daejeon.

Having sweet and sour pork included in the course made me especially satisfied!

When we left the restaurant, the sky was high and the breeze was cool. Sharing good food and laughter with family right before Chuseok made for a day that felt full in every sense. 💛
