When you're looking for a truly delicious jjukkumi (stir-fried octopus) restaurant

Signature griddle jjukkumi dish at Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch

I took a half day off to go with Ddu-ddu to the OB-GYN at Chung-Ang University Hospital Gwangmyeong, so it had been a while since I was near Gwangmyeong Station. I'd been craving squid or octopus stir-fry forever, but Ddu-ddu wasn't that into it, so I'd been holding back... until I found a jjukkumi spot in Gwangmyeong and begged and begged until we finally went.

Just reading this place's shop description, you can tell the owner is genuinely serious about jjukkumi stir-fry, so it felt trustworthy going in. Here's my review after visiting this Gwangmyeong restaurant where the octopus and pork belly were seriously delicious. Time to find out if it really lives up to the hype.

Where is Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch, and where do you park?

Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch is less than a 5-minute walk from Gwangmyeong Station Exit 1. True to being a Gwangmyeong Station restaurant, it's extremely close to the station, so it's very accessible, and since it's in a commercial building near AK Plaza, it's also great for shopping afterward to help the food settle.

You can park anywhere in the underground lot of the building that houses AK Plaza Gwangmyeong and the L7 Hotel. Parking is free for 2 hours! The lot is so huge I had trouble deciding where to park... I ended up at basement level 4, section U03. After parking there, I went through the L7 Hotel entrance in front, took the elevator down to the 1st floor, and Jeongipum Jjukkumi was right there. Good to know if you're visiting!

Do you need a reservation at Jeongipum Jjukkumi?

You can make a reservation for Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch through Naver. I visited on a weekday at 1pm, after the office workers' lunch rush had passed, so I figured there wouldn't be many customers — but true to being a popular Gwangmyeong restaurant, it was packed, so booking ahead seems like a good idea.

Interior visible through the large glass windows at Jeongipum Jjukkumi

The exterior of Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch is a long storefront on the 1st floor with a cute octopus logo. Big glass windows let you see the whole interior from outside, so it doesn't feel closed off either way.

Inside, orange seems to be the signature color — orange details everywhere. Kind of cute, honestly. The octopus logo, which makes it instantly clear this is a jjukkumi restaurant near Gwangmyeong Station, was also pretty adorable.

Parking registration is a simple self-service kiosk right by the entrance. Don't forget to register your parking after eating!

There were so many helpful signs posted around the restaurant it almost felt like overkill — very thoughtful. That's the sense of a good Gwangmyeong jjukkumi restaurant that anticipates what customers might want to know! Naver receipt reviews are accepted too.

Instructions for the best way to eat the griddle jjukkumi

A real go-to restaurant always has its own way of eating the dish, right? Jeongipum Jjukkumi has its own method for eating the griddle jjukkumi stir-fry the best way, so of course I had to try it exactly as instructed!

Wait a bit and the food gets set up.

Black pork belly and octopus on the griddle

We chose the black pork belly option, with the mild spice level.

Cold cucumber soup and cabbage salad

The side dishes were lemon radish salad, bean sprouts, perilla leaves, seasoned laver, flying fish roe, cold cucumber soup, cabbage salad, and white sauce.

The complimentary steamed egg (gyeranjjim) was so good! I'd meant to only take one bite and save my appetite in case the jjukkumi was too spicy, but it was so tasty I practically finished it before the octopus was even done cooking...

Minari griddle jjukkumi with pork belly: staff cook it all for you

Do you have to cook this yourself once it's served? Nope! The staff do it all, so you can just wait comfortably and dig in when it's ready.

Since it's a minari jjukkumi and pork belly dish, they pile the griddle high with minari (water dropwort) while cooking. I used to really dislike minari, but lately I've gotten into the flavor and eat it happily now, haha. Guess I'm getting older.

Cooking away nicely~

Griddle jjukkumi cooked with a generous pile of minari

The griddle jjukkumi stir-fry cooked up perfectly. Just cut the octopus and minari to your liking and dig in.

Why wrap with the underside of the perilla leaf?

I tried wrapping it the way they instructed above. It's insanely good. I get now why they tell you to wrap using the back side of the perilla leaf. Does the texture and flavor really differ that much between the front and back? On top of that, the combination with the lemon radish salad, bean sprouts, seasoned laver, and white sauce worked so well together — really excellent.

Look how plump the octopus is~

Ddu-ddu found it too much of a hassle and just ate the octopus and pork belly plain, popping perilla leaves in separately, but I kept wrapping it the way the restaurant recommended until every last bite was gone. Genuinely delicious. For real!

Free flying fish roe and perilla leaf fried rice

After leaving a Naver receipt review, we got flying fish roe and perilla leaf fried rice for free. They fry the rice for you too, no work required.

Wait, what? Even the fried rice was delicious. They even toast up seasoned laver on the griddle alongside it, saying it's great with the rice — and it really paired perfectly.

The fried rice seasoning wasn't too strong, just right, so even though we were already full, we finished the whole thing. Felt like a genuinely satisfying, happy meal after a long time!
