Gyesan-dong bakery café for red bean butter salt bread: Dalgeuraem
In short
Dalgeuraem is a bakery café on the ground floor of a three-story house in a residential pocket of Gyesan-dong, Gyeyang, Incheon. On a tip about the salt bread, the writer went with friends and shared soft salt bread at 3,000 won, ambeoteo salt bread (red bean and butter salt bread) at 5,500 won and mugwort-red bean crumble financier at 3,500 won, along with an americano, a vanilla bean cream latte and a basil tomato ade. Even a friend who usually dislikes ambeoteo called it delicious, and the basil tomato ade with pickled tomato was the most memorable drink at Dalgeuraem.

Today I went to Dalgeuraem Bakery & Café over in the next neighborhood. I'd heard the salt bread was really good, so I made a special trip out to try it. Following the navigation the whole way, I kept thinking, 'Is there really a café here?' — it was tucked deep inside a totally ordinary residential area.
But once I actually arrived, it was so much prettier and more charming than I expected! Best of all, my friends who came with me were happy too, so I felt weirdly proud for having brought them. :)
Finding Dalgeuraem inside a Gyesan-dong residential block
Dalgeuraem is set up as a café on the first floor of a three-story house, deep inside a residential area of Gyesan-dong, Gyeyang-gu, Incheon. The first thing I thought when I arrived was, 'Is this really the place?' — the surroundings were just an ordinary neighborhood, nothing that suggested a café would be here.
But the moment you step through the entrance, the mood completely changes. White exterior walls, wood-toned windows, and a yellow awning give the whole place a bright, warm feel. There's even a big Eiffel Tower model that catches your eye from a distance. It was a bit surprising to find a space decorated like this hidden inside a residential area.

What the entrance to Dalgeuraem looks like
Even the path leading into Dalgeuraem was too cute to just walk past. Plants, baskets, and little props were arranged with a vintage feel. When I visited, Halloween was coming up soon, so there were Halloween decorations here and there too.
There were spiders and spiderwebs on the door, and on one side, a ghost in a witch hat along with pumpkin decorations! It wasn't overdone — just a few accents added to the existing interior — so it was fun to take photos.

Dalgeuraem's white and wood-toned interior
The interior of Dalgeuraem was also neatly done in white and wood tones. It was cozy and compact overall, with wooden tables and chairs giving it a comfortable feel. Three lovely staff members greeted us kindly, which made a great first impression.

Even the restroom feels very Dalgeuraem
And the bathroom kept that same Dalgeuraem mood going.

There was a wood-framed mirror, a vintage-style faucet, and hand wash and hand lotion neatly set out. Even hairpins, hair ties, and cotton swabs — and inside, various feminine hygiene products were stocked too. Attention to these small details was pretty impressive.
Dalgeuraem's bread lineup and what we ordered
Dalgeuraem's showcase had everything from tiramisu to cakes piled high with fruit, and besides salt bread, there were various baked goods like financiers and egg tarts. Since it's apparently a salt bread spot in Gyesan-dong, we had to try it!
- Soft salt bread ₩3,000
- Ambeoteo salt bread (sweet red bean and butter salt bread) ₩5,500
- Mugwort-red bean crumble financier ₩3,500
Since we came specifically because we'd heard the salt bread was good, we started with that. We picked up one plain salt bread and one ambeoteo salt bread, and since that still felt like it wasn't quite enough, we added a mugwort-red bean crumble financier too.

But after we finished ordering, I noticed one bread that kept showing up at the tables around us — chili salt bread! It looked like everyone had one, and I got curious way too late, but by then we'd already ordered plenty, so I let it go this time. If I come back, I'm definitely trying the chili salt bread.
Drinks at Dalgeuraem, from americano to basil tomato ade
We picked three drinks based on our own tastes too.
- Americano ₩4,000
- Vanilla bean cream latte ₩6,000
- Basil tomato ade ₩5,500
We got the standard americano, and since I'm a latte lover, I ordered the vanilla bean cream latte, plus a basil tomato ade, which I already love. Once the breads and drinks were all lined up on the table, I loved the look of it already.

The americano had a slight tanginess along with a nutty flavor. It paired well with the bread too. But as a latte lover, of course the vanilla bean cream latte was the one for me!

The cream on top was really delicious. I usually like lattes that aren't too sweet — maybe the current trend is finally catching up with my taste, haha. Dalgeuraem's cream latte wasn't overly sweet either. If you're expecting the typical sweet vanilla latte flavor, it might feel a bit lacking — but for me, it was just right.
And then there was the drink that really surprised me that day — the basil tomato ade.

It's a drink I already like, so I've had it many times at other cafés. But here, there was something that looked like pickled tomato inside the drink. At first I just stared at it, wondering, 'Am I actually supposed to eat this?' Then I tried one and — wait, this is really good?!
It was just sweet enough while staying refreshing, and the tomato's own flavor really came through, so it was better than I expected. If anything, that tomato made the whole ade taste even better. Out of all the drinks we ordered that day, this one stuck with me the most.
How do the soft salt bread and ambeoteo salt bread taste?
It really was a salt bread spot worth the name! The Dalgeuraem salt bread I'd been looking forward to did not disappoint.

The plain salt bread made it clear why people call this place a salt bread spot. But what really surprised me was the ambeoteo salt bread!

One of my friends who normally doesn't care for ambeoteo took a bite and said, 'I don't usually like ambeoteo, but this is good~' and kept eating happily, haha. Seeing that made me weirdly proud.
The mugwort and red bean financier at Dalgeuraem
Last but not least, I picked the mugwort-red bean crumble financier without much expectation.

It had that dense, weighty texture typical of financiers. I thought the mugwort and red bean would make the flavor strong, but it turned out much more subtle than expected, which made it great to pair with coffee.
Why Dalgeuraem is worth bringing friends to
Honestly, my friends' first reaction was, 'Why would we go all the way out there just for coffee?' haha. But after trying the bread and drinks, they said, 'This is why you have to go around and check places out,' and seemed pretty happy about it. Hearing that made me, the one who dragged everyone out there, weirdly proud, haha.
Dalgeuraem Bakery & Café is hidden right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, so when I first went looking for it, I kept thinking, 'Is there really a café here?' But once inside, there was a charming, well-decorated space and plenty of fun choices — salt bread, baked goods, cakes, and drinks.
The salt bread stood out, but so did the not-too-sweet cream latte and the basil tomato ade with its tomatoes, which I'll remember for a while. If a café like this were in my own neighborhood, I'd really come often! Next time, I need to go back for the chili salt bread I missed this round. :)
