Jeonpo tonkatsu after the limited menu sold out: Hets Jeonpo, Busan

In short

Hets Jeonpo Branch is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin, Busan, a 3-minute walk from Jeonpo Station Exit 7. On a late weekday evening visit with a friend, the limited-quantity menu was already sold out, so the order was the YBD assorted katsu at 17,000 won, Jeju black pork loin katsu at 14,000 won and boneless gara-age (Japanese fried chicken) at 4,000 won, eaten side by side to compare breeds and cuts. For a quiet meal at the bar seats sampling several cuts at once, the YBD assorted katsu at Hets Jeonpo Branch was the right call.

Tonkatsu table setting at Hets Jeonpo Branch

Visited Hets Jeonpo Branch, a tonkatsu spot in Jeonpo-dong!!! haha I went with a friend on a weekday evening, and since it was late the place was calm and quiet, so we got to eat comfortably :) I was hunting for a good tonkatsu place in Jeonpo-dong and ended up here, going in expecting a proper Japanese-style tonkatsu specialist.

Where Hets Jeonpo Branch is and where to park

Hets Jeonpo Branch is about a 3-minute walk from Jeonpo Station exit 7! It's close to the station, so it wasn't hard to find.

There's no dedicated parking space, apparently. If you use the public parking lot near Jeonpo Station and show your parking ticket, they'll cover ₩1,000, so that's good to know if you're driving!

Weekday evening mood and the bar seats

Maybe because we came on a weekday evening, we got in and ate pretty comfortably without a wait. I was in the mood for a quiet meal that day, so it actually worked out great haha.

Clean gray-toned interior of Hets Jeonpo Branch

The interior overall had a clean gray-tone vibe! It seemed like a place you could visit solo without feeling awkward, and I'd recommend it for a date or a simple dinner with a friend too!

Bar seating facing the open kitchen

All the tables are bar-style seating facing an open kitchen, so you get little glimpses of the food being prepared haha.

Hets Jeonpo Branch menu and prices

Menu board at Hets Jeonpo Branch

Since we came late, the limited-quantity menu items were unfortunately sold out ㅠㅠㅠㅠ Next time I'll come a bit earlier to try the other menu items..! YBD is apparently a premium pork from a three-way cross of Yorkshire, Berkshire, and Duroc breeds, and this place studies katsu that highlight the flavor and texture differences of the meat itself.

  • YBD assorted katsu ₩17,000
  • Jeju black pork loin katsu ₩14,000
  • Boneless gara-age, 4 pieces ₩4,000

Among the side dishes, you can ask staff about the silbi kimchi, and everything except the katsu itself comes with free refills. Leave a Naver review and get a free boneless gara-age or soft drink!

What comes with the 17,000 won YBD assorted katsu

I ordered the YBD assorted katsu for ₩17,000! It comes with YBD loin katsu plus one piece of fillet katsu — a menu that lets you taste loin and fillet side by side 👍🏻

Basic setup of kimchi, tonkatsu sauce, rice, and soup
Table with cracked pepper, wasabi, and truffle oil

First came kimchi, tonkatsu sauce, rice, and a light soup! On the table, they had cracked black pepper, wasabi, truffle oil, and corn salad dressing ready to go!

How does the Jeju black pork loin katsu taste?

A plate of Jeju black pork loin katsu

▫️Jeju black pork loin katsu. This one is supposedly chewy with rich umami and a hint of smoky char flavor.

The more I chewed, the chewier it felt, and the meat's own umami and nuttiness came through strong.

On top of that, a subtle smoky char flavor made the overall taste even richer :)

The best way to eat the katsu

How to eat katsu the tasty way!

First bite of katsu without sauce
  • 1. Take the first bite without sauce to taste the katsu itself
  • 2. Add wasabi in moderation

  • 3. Try it with pink salt
  • 4. Cracked black pepper to taste
  • 5. A modest touch of truffle oil too

YBD loin vs fillet vs Jeju black pork

Comparing YBD loin katsu and fillet katsu
Cross-section of the soft fillet katsu

The YBD assorted katsu lets you taste loin and fillet together — the loin was light and nutty! The fillet was soft and moist, so the texture difference was clear.

A piece of light, clean-tasting YBD loin katsu

If the Jeju black pork loin katsu is the chewy, smoky-char style, YBD felt a bit lighter and cleaner to eat :)

Boneless gara-age for 4,000 won

Four pieces of boneless gara-age
Cross-section of crispy-battered boneless gara-age

Under the crispy batter was moist boneless chicken — soft, with a nutty crispy outside and a not-at-all-dry inside. Really good!

Gara-age paired between bites of katsu

Eating only katsu can get a little heavy after a while, but pairing in the gara-age (Japanese-style fried chicken) in between let me enjoy a different flavor.

Final verdict on Hets Jeonpo Branch

Final table setting after comparing cuts of katsu

Even though it's all tonkatsu, the taste and texture varied by breed and cut, so comparing them one by one made for a more relaxed, satisfying meal haha.

If you're looking for a good Japanese-style tonkatsu spot in Jeonpo-dong, I'd recommend Hets Jeonpo Branch. If you want to taste multiple cuts at once, the YBD assorted katsu is also a solid choice! Next time I want to try the limited-quantity menu items that were sold out, so I'll plan to visit a bit earlier.
