Jeju indoor attraction with kids: vending machine reveal at Nohyeong

Nohyeong Supermarket had an unusual name from the start! Because of the word "supermarket," I was curious what kind of place this could even be. The exterior didn't feel like a typical tourist spot either, so I was already a bit excited before going in. Let's see what's actually inside!

Walking in, the box office is right there. There's a kiosk so ticketing is simple, and off to one side there's a photo printer too. Little touches like this start catching your eye even before the actual exhibit begins 👀

Okay, now let's really go in! Right from the entrance, the walls are packed with old-fashioned signs, and the mood starts shifting instantly. Totally different from your average exhibit entrance, right? Let's follow the stairs up!

Climbing the stairs, even the walls demanded a closer look. Old photos, price lists from back in the day, even materials styled like old newspapers — I kept stopping to read every single one. There was even a story about a "man who teleported"! I had no idea what that was about, which only made me more curious about the next space.

A short wait here! A staff member gave a quick briefing before we went in, and they were so witty about it that the wait didn't feel boring at all. After the intro, we moved into the next space.

An exhibit space like an old neighborhood supermarket from a movie

It looked exactly like an old-school neighborhood supermarket lifted straight out of a movie. From the tightly packed shelves to the old packaging and props, there was a lot to see everywhere. It's not something you see easily these days, so I found myself saying "they even had this?" and staring for ages.

The vending machine reveal that had the kids glued

Then, near the end, we found an old vending machine! While we were waiting there, the lights suddenly went out and TVs around us started flickering on one by one. Just as I was wondering what was happening, it turned out to be part of the staging. It's an atmosphere that photos can't fully capture — you really have to see it in person. Even the kids didn't take their eyes off it. A moment later, the vending machine door opened automatically, leading into the next space.

The second the vending machine door opened, the whole mood changed completely. Colorful lights poured out and moved in every direction, and everything in front of me suddenly turned dazzling — I let out a "whoa" without even meaning to. The kids' eyes went wide here too.

The lighting shifted from blue to green as we walked, the atmosphere constantly changing. Each time one scene ended, I naturally started wondering what would come next. What was waiting at the bottom of the stairs?

A massive media art hall with plenty of seating

Going down the stairs, an overwhelmingly large media art space opens up. Vivid visuals fill a huge wall and keep flowing continuously — it was much bigger than I expected, and there was genuinely a lot to see. There's plenty of seating around too, so it was nice to sip a drink and take it in at a relaxed pace. I completely lost track of time watching it.

While watching the media art, I noticed another path off to the side! Curious what was in there, I snuck in for a look. From colorful signs to old-fashioned bags, there were plenty of props that caught my eye one by one. I ended up staring at that one bag for way too long haha

A drink at Nohyeong Dabang after the exhibit

Time flew by while I was looking around haha. Once you finish the exhibit and come out, there's Nohyeong Dabang (café) waiting. After all that walking around, I naturally started craving a drink 🤭 The menu had plenty of variety, so I picked something to my taste.

How was it as an indoor stop on a Jeju family trip?

If you're looking for somewhere indoor on a hot Jeju summer day, this was exactly the right kind of stop. There was plenty to see and it was something kids could enjoy too, so the time went by faster than expected. Not having to worry about weather is a big plus too!
