I've been going through some kind of hair funk lately and kept feeling like my hair color just wasn't doing it for me. Taking the elevator up to the 2nd floor, I saw Uaroom's clean, modern exterior. Another important thing when you're at a hair salon — since it takes a while — is having a restroom nearby, and there was one right outside, so that was convenient.

Inside Uaroom: waiting area and shampoo room

Once inside Uaroom, the space felt really spacious, with plenty of seats for treatments. It wasn't cramped at all — it had this open, airy feeling that I liked.

There was also a waiting area in the middle where you could charge your phone while getting your hair done, which was nice. The shampoo area had three chairs, each equipped with soft cushioning and blankets.

How the personal color consultation worked

While looking into this Maetan-dong hair salon, I wanted more than just having a color slapped on — I wanted a consultation on which color would actually suit my current hair condition and skin tone. In particular, I'd never really known exactly which shade of brown suited me, so before dyeing I talked through personal color in detail. I got my treatment from designer Soi, and she gave me one-on-one color recommendations tailored to me, confirming that this really is a place that's good at personal color dyes!

Step by step: the dark brown tone-down dye

After deciding to go with a dark brown tone-down, she first sprayed on a scalp-protecting spray. After that, she carefully applied the dye. She was careful not to get any on my ears or elsewhere, but still worked fast, so it was over before I knew it!

When dyeing, she worked to blend the existing light hair and the roots as naturally as possible. Before dyeing, the roots had grown out quite a bit and looked messy, so I was looking forward to how much cleaner it would look once toned down. Designer Soi kept checking in throughout to make sure nothing felt uncomfortable or stung!

While I waited 20 minutes, they offered me a drink, and they had quite a variety on hand! I asked for an iced Americano, and it came out neatly with a cookie on the side.

After the 20 minutes were up, I went to the shampoo room where they cleanly washed out the dye, checking whether the water temperature was okay and whether there was anywhere I'd like shampooed more. At the end, they gave my scalp a light massage too, which felt really good and relieved a lot of tension! Then they carefully blow-dried my hair.

Did the dark brown dye cover the grown-out roots?

Seeing my hair after the final blow-dry, the overall color looked exactly like the dark brown feel I'd wanted, all evenly toned. Before dyeing, the roots had grown out so much that the color difference was pretty noticeable whenever I tied my hair up or stood in bright light, but after the tone-down it looked completely natural! Definitely a great spot for anyone looking for a place that's good at personal color dyes.
