Suwon EMS spa for parenting neck and shoulder pain, 41°C tub: Xpa

In short

Xpa is an EMS training center and EMS spa on the 4th floor of a building near Mangpo Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. After months of recurring neck and shoulder joint pain from caring for a child, the writer lay in a tub set to 41°C for a 20-minute EMS spa session with two modes, sweating from about the 10-minute mark and coming out as relaxed as after a hot spring trip. If tight neck and shoulders and sluggish circulation are the problem, the Xpa EMS spa is worth trying once.

These days, my neck and shoulder joint pain from parenting never seems to end. Just when I think I've worked out the knots, they're back again, so I went to Xpa near Mangpo Station for an EMS spa session that's supposed to help with neck and shoulder pain.

What is an EMS spa at Xpa near Mangpo Station?

EMS spa is a new kind of exercise program that combines electrical muscle stimulation with a half-body bath. It's also effective for physical therapy and reducing swelling, so it's great for people with poor circulation or joint pain in the neck, shoulders, or lower back.

How the session goes: 20 minutes in a 41°C tub

You take off all your underwear, change into workout clothes, and get into the tub.

When you book, the staff ask about your preferred water temperature in advance (and set it to be ready by your arrival time), so you can have the water at whatever temperature suits your body. I like it hot, so I set mine to 41°C.

The EMS spa runs for 20 minutes across two modes, delivering different kinds of vibration to your abdomen, legs, and back. It's the effect of exercising while lying down — like getting physical therapy while lying down.

Lie back comfortably for 20 minutes and feel the pulses of the EMS spa. At first there's no sweat, but around the 10-minute mark it gets warm and you start sweating. The staff also prepare cold water in advance to drink during the session, so I kept hydrating in between.

My body felt completely relaxed, like I'd just come back from a hot spring. Just 20 minutes in hot water alone would already help with fatigue recovery, but doing it with the EMS spa made it even better.

You finish up with a shower! All the shower supplies are provided, so all you need to bring is your own lotion and the like — very convenient.
