Ingye-dong Chinese dinner: Hong Kong egg noodles at Gang's Duck, Suwon

In short

Gang's Duck is a Chinese restaurant in Ingye-dong, near Suwon City Hall Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. After work, the writer and her husband ordered dongpo-yuk (braised pork belly), Hong Kong-style egg noodles and a side of Peking duck stir-fried bean sprouts, and the thick, string-tied dongpo-yuk was still on her mind once she got home. The bean sprout side, chosen with no expectations, turned out to be the surprise highlight of the evening.

After work, my husband and I headed to Gang's Duck, a well-known spot in Ingye-dong near Suwon City Hall Station 🙆🏻‍♀️ There's no lot of its own, so use a nearby public parking lot or the Suwon City Hall lot! 🚘 I used the Suwon City Hall lot, and since it was evening there were plenty of spots, so it was an easy visit 🤓 It's also about 350m from Suwon City Hall Station, so it's easy to get to by public transit too 💖

Inside Gang's Duck: a wide hall that fits group dinners

Inside, Gang's Duck is clean and has a hip atmosphere, and there were plenty of younger customers even late in the evening. There's quite a lot of seating and it's spacious, so it looked like a good spot for a work dinner or gathering too.

The inside is clean and hip, so there were a lot of younger customers even late at night 😉 There's a good amount of spacious seating, so it seemed like a nice place for a work dinner or a get-together 💘

There's also a terrace, and once the weather gets cooler it seems like it'd be nice to enjoy it outside 🥺 Being able to feel the season is a plus too ❗️

I heard it's famous for Peking duck, and it was fun getting to watch them carve it right at the table ☺️ I ordered something else, but another table ordered Peking duck, so I got to watch the performance ❤️

The menu at Gang's Duck and ordering three dishes by kiosk

There's a kiosk at every table at Gang's Duck, so ordering was easy. What we picked that night: dongpo-yuk (braised pork belly), Hong Kong-style egg noodles, and Peking duck stir-fried bean sprouts.

Is the dongpo-yuk at Gang's Duck as good as people say?

Gang's Duck's dongpo-yuk comes out thick and holds its shape perfectly, tied with string, and it was so tender that even a light press sank right in. The sauce was rich and savory but somehow less greasy than I expected.

Am I the only one who loves these peanuts that come out first? Haha. They're great for cleansing your palate between bites, but honestly the crunchy texture was so good I think I ate half of them before the food even arrived 🤣

The sauce soaked in was rich and savory, but it was less greasy than I expected 😉 This was actually my first time having proper dongpo-yuk, and it was so good it stayed on my mind even after I got home 💖

Hong Kong-style egg noodles: wok smoke and crisp bean sprouts

Gang's Duck's Hong Kong-style egg noodles had chewy noodles with a savory flavor that wasn't too intense. It's not the usual Chinese-restaurant style you'd expect — it's Hong Kong-style stir-fry sauce with smoky wok flavor layered in.

The Hong Kong-style egg noodles had chewy noodles and a savory flavor that wasn't over the top 🥺 It wasn't the usual Chinese-restaurant dish you'd picture — it's Hong Kong-style stir-fry sauce with smoky wok flavor added in, a dish I kept going back for ❤️

The bean sprouts with their crisp, lively texture were amazing too — you get why it's the best-seller right away ❗️

Why the Peking duck bean sprout side stole the evening

Still hungry, we added Peking duck stir-fried bean sprouts as a side, and it turned out to be the surprise discovery of the night. The salty sauce had a decent amount of Peking duck meat mixed in, giving it a nutty, savory depth.

I was so hungry I added one more dish as a side — Peking duck stir-fried bean sprouts. Honestly, as a side dish I ordered it with zero expectations, but it turned out to be a total gem, I'd recommend it ☺️

The salty sauce had a surprising amount of Peking duck meat in it, giving that distinct meaty, nutty flavor. I would've regretted it so much if we hadn't ordered this 🤣 Ate well again today 💗
