On a day when the breeze turned noticeably cooler and my mood felt a bit hollow, I somehow craved that fresh scent of the sea and a warm bowl of soup. So I headed to Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch in Dongchun-dong. You can find it right as you step off the elevator on the 3rd floor.

Unlimited kimchijeon you fry yourself at the self-bar

Off to one side, ice cream and brewed coffee were also set up for after the meal — such a thoughtful touch, I was genuinely moved~~~~

The lunch special sashimi set in the 10,000-won range: sashimi and tempura

Fresh, in-season flounder and rockfish sashimi arrived that day, sliced to just the right thickness.

For around ₩10,000-something per person, you get to enjoy a course from sashimi to tempura to stew — an absolute best-value menu. Once you order, the basic side dishes and starter spread get set up right away to warm you up.

The sashimi was really firm and chewy. I'd worried the portion might be small since it's a lunch special, but it was more than enough to fully enjoy the texture of raw fish for a single lunch.

The shrimp and sweet potato tempura, fried fresh to order and still crisp, was really delicious.

The sushi, portioned simply to match the number of diners, was generously filled and very satisfying — one of the things that made Veteran stand out.

Complimentary salad and seasoned raw fish salad

There was complimentary salad and seasoned raw fish salad too~ and the savory-sweet salted pollack roe was rice-stealing good~

The flying fish roe popping in the hot stone bowl, paired with the crispy scorched rice at the bottom — that texture combo is pure art.

Just as I was finishing the sashimi, the hot, refreshing spicy stew arrived — and honestly, it was good enough to be a standalone dish, which caught me off guard.

Fish-bone spicy stew bubbling hot

The fish bones were simmered thoroughly, giving the broth a rich, deep flavor~ spicy with a clean finish that left my stomach feeling settled.

Adding mulhoe and somyeon noodles to the lunch set

The mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) I ordered as an extra arrived. The broth, topped with slushy ice, was refreshing right down to my chest. It wasn't overly sweet or sharply sour — just a hint of fruity sweetness and tang that instantly perked up my appetite.

Somyeon noodles swirled into the icy mulhoe broth

After fishing out all the fish and vegetables, I swirled somyeon noodles into the remaining cold broth, and the savory flavor clung to every strand — a satisfying finish that hit the spot.

From fresh raw sashimi to golden tempura, popping egg rice, and hearty fish-bone spicy stew — it was such a full, well-rounded lunch special that it was hard to believe it was just lunch. I'd recommend this place for anyone who wants great value and great taste in one meal, the kind of spot you'd want to visit every day.
