Gwangalli pizza restaurant date with stracciatella pasta: Extra Mile

In short

Extra Mile is a pizza and pasta restaurant in Gwangalli, Suyeong-gu, Busan. A married couple stopped in on a date and ordered the Classic Combo at 42,000 won, which brings one whole pizza and one pasta: they picked a half potato, half hot honey pepperoni pizza with the tomato pasta topped with stracciatella cheese. The mild potato half, the sweet-spicy hot honey half and the bright tomato sauce took turns, so no single flavour wore thin.

If you're looking for a good pizza place in Gwangalli, keep an eye on the spot I'm introducing today!

We want pizza, but we also want pasta, and staring at the menu trying to decide what to order — is that just my husband and me? Haha. Especially with pizza, one flavor alone feels like not enough, but ordering a bunch of different things can be too much food.

This time, on a date in Gwangalli with my husband, we visited Extra Mile and found the answer to that dilemma: the Classic Combo. We picked potato pizza, hot honey pepperoni pizza, and tomato pasta! A combination that let us enjoy everything from mild, savory flavors to sweet and spicy ones — I was excited just choosing the menu.

Here's our review of Extra Mile, from a couple who couldn't give up either pizza or pasta. :)

What kind of restaurant is Extra Mile in Gwangalli?

Extra Mile is a pizza and pasta restaurant located in Gwangalli, Suyeong-gu, Busan. It's a good place to visit when you want to enjoy pizza and pasta together.

There are so many good restaurants in Gwangalli that it's actually hard to decide what to eat. Especially when dining out with my husband, we go back and forth between Korean food and Western food, and it takes a while to settle on a place. That day we were craving pizza and pasta, so we chose Extra Mile.

Inside Extra Mile: sleek but easy to sit in

The space had a clean, sophisticated interior combined with a relaxed, casual mood. A restaurant that's too formal makes you feel cautious, but a chaotic, busy place makes it hard to focus on the meal. Extra Mile felt like it was somewhere right in between.

It was stylish enough without being intimidating, so it was easy for my husband and me to chat comfortably while eating. The large windows kept the space from feeling cramped, and the neatly arranged tables were also impressive.

Having an open kitchen where you can watch the food being made was another charm that set it apart from a typical pizza place. It seemed like a spot that would work well for couples on a date as well as friends out for a good meal!

What comes with the 42,000-won Classic Combo?

Extra Mile's Classic Combo is ₩42,000, a set for two that lets you enjoy one whole pizza and one pasta together. I especially liked that you can split the pizza into two flavors, so you get to enjoy two different tastes.

Sitting down and looking over the menu, there were so many pizza options that the happy dilemma started all over again, haha. Since we wanted both pizza and pasta, we went with the Classic Combo.

  • Classic Combo ₩42,000
  • Pizza: Potato + Hot Honey Pepperoni (half and half)
  • Pasta: Tomato Pasta

Being able to split one pizza into two flavors is great when there are multiple things you want to try. We chose mild, savory potato for one half and sweet-spicy hot honey pepperoni for the other. Adding tomato pasta on top of that meant we could go back and forth between richness and refreshing lightness. In the end, choosing dishes with distinct charms let us enjoy variety all the way to the end.

How does the potato pizza at Extra Mile taste?

Extra Mile's potato pizza is topped with both thinly sliced potato and shredded, fried potato shreds, so you get to enjoy potato texture in multiple ways. Let me introduce the potato pizza first.

When you say potato pizza, you probably picture the familiar look with big potato wedges on top. But Extra Mile's version used potato in a slightly different way. One bite gives you the mild flavor of potato plus a crispy texture, with the savory richness of cheese blending in naturally.

If you like the sweet-and-salty combo, this pizza is definitely worth checking out. Switching back and forth with the other flavor made the contrast between the two even clearer. Eating the savory potato pizza and then switching to the sweet-spicy hot honey pepperoni felt like refreshing your palate! If we'd only ordered one flavor, it would have felt like something was missing — I was glad we went half and half. If you want something more distinctive than a plain pepperoni pizza, I'd recommend the hot honey pepperoni.

The fragrant truffle oil and salty bacon added even more layers of flavor than a simple potato pizza. The potato itself is mild, but the cheese and bacon add richness so it never feels bland, and the subtle truffle aroma blending in was appealing too. What I liked most was the texture combination of crispy potato and pizza dough!

Is the hot honey pepperoni pizza sweet or spicy?

Extra Mile's hot honey pepperoni pizza combines pepperoni, sweet hot honey sauce, soft cheese, and pickled peppers. Where the potato pizza was mild and savory, the hot honey pepperoni has a completely different charm.

Pepperoni pizza is common enough anywhere, but I was curious what one with hot honey added would taste like. Before trying it, I thought the honey might make it overly sweet, but the combination of salty pepperoni and spicy pepper meant it wasn't just sweet at all. First you get the salty, rich flavor unique to pepperoni, and then the sweetness of hot honey and a subtle spiciness follow.

Unlike the potato pizza, where the toppings were entirely soft, this one had crispy potato texture added in, which made it fun to chew. Toppings matter, but the dough has to be good for a pizza to be satisfying all the way through. The crispy-outside, chewy-inside dough went well with the generous potato topping. If you usually like mild, savory pizzas, this one would satisfy you too.

How did the stracciatella tomato pasta pair with the pizza?

Extra Mile's tomato pasta combines tomato sauce with basil and stracciatella cheese. This was the dish I was looking forward to almost as much as the pizza.

My husband and I like ordering pizza and pasta together, and this time we chose tomato pasta since we figured the pizza toppings would be pretty rich in flavor.

I expected an ordinary tomato pasta, but the combination of tomato's brightness with the soft, savory cheese was appealing. The tangy flavor typical of tomato sauce perked up the palate, while the cheese kept it from feeling too light. The fragrant basil in particular paired well with the tomato sauce.

Eating the potato pizza and then taking a bite of tomato pasta felt refreshing, and going back to the hot honey pepperoni brought back the sweet-spicy flavor, so we got to enjoy a variety of tastes throughout the meal. I love cream pasta too, but considering the pizzas we ordered that day, choosing tomato pasta was the right call.

Scooping a portion of tomato pasta

Both pizza flavors were rich with cheese and toppings, so the tomato sauce's brightness felt like it balanced things out between them. The pasta was good on its own, but it was even more appealing eaten alongside the pizzas.

Who is Extra Mile in Gwangalli best for?

What I liked most about this meal was the combination of dishes. The potato pizza was mild and savory with an appealing crispy potato texture, the hot honey pepperoni had a sweet, salty, and spicy flavor with a lot of character, and the tomato pasta's bright sauce and soft cheese paired well with the pizza.

Switching between the two pizza flavors with my husband and adding pasta on top meant we never got tired of one flavor — that was satisfying. Extra Mile also had a great interior atmosphere on top of good food, which made the meal even more enjoyable. As a couple who prefers a sleek but comfortable space over something flashy or overwhelming, the mood suited us well. I think it's a good place to visit when you're on a date in Gwangalli and craving good Western food.
