Pohang restaurant for beef pilaf with white rice: Plan A Restaurant

It was our first time in Pohang, and as soon as we got near the beach, Minimani said she wanted to eat somewhere with an ocean view. We scrambled to find a restaurant with a sea view and discovered Plan A Restaurant, right across from Songdo Beach with a gorgeous ocean view, so we decided to go there for lunch. Thanks to Minimani's one comment, we found a great spot, and my husband, Minimani and I all headed over in good spirits, looking forward to eating delicious pasta while taking in the open scenery.

Inside Plan A Restaurant: 4th-floor window seats facing Songdo Beach

Plan A Restaurant is a Western restaurant on the 4th floor of a building right in front of Songdo Beach in Pohang. Going up to the 4th floor and stepping inside, the blue sea and white waves breaking beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows came into full view, and it felt like a breath of fresh air.

We picked the place in a rush, but the view spreading out beyond the window was so stunning that,

my husband, the moment he sat down, kept saying, "We really made the right call choosing this place."

The white-and-wood interior was also modern and clean,

and the tables were spaced generously apart, making it perfect for the whole family to eat comfortably while chatting.

Plan A Restaurant menu and prices

Plan A Restaurant uses tablet ordering at the table. Pasta runs ₩15,000–16,000, and beef pilaf is ₩17,000. Looking at the tablet, each menu item had a detailed photo and description, which made choosing very easy.

Along with steak and pasta in various sauces, the menu also had pilaf, risotto, salad and fried side dishes — a full range of Western dishes. From mild, savory options that kids would love to spicy, punchy dishes for adults, there was something for everyone, making it a great spot for a family meal with kids. We ordered carbonara spaghetti for Minimani, and for my husband and me to share: spicy shrimp soup spaghetti, beef pilaf, and a bowl of white rice.

How do the carbonara, shrimp soup spaghetti and beef pilaf taste?

Of the three dishes we ordered at Plan A Restaurant, our kid took charge of the carbonara spaghetti while the adults handled the spicy shrimp soup spaghetti and beef pilaf. The carbonara, made with egg yolk, cheese and bacon, had a rich, savory cream sauce that had Minimani happily twirling up noodles with her fork and cleaning her plate on her own.

The shrimp soup spaghetti, loaded with plump shrimp and mushrooms, had a spicy, refreshing broth that was so good my husband and I kept scooping up the soup with our spoons.

My husband ordering the white rice was a stroke of genius. It paired incredibly well with the broth.

The beef pilaf, made with domestic hanwoo and other beef, had chewy rice grains well seasoned all the way through, giving it a rich, savory flavor,

and the three dishes complemented each other so perfectly that my husband gave a thumbs up.

Is Plan A Restaurant a good first lunch in Pohang?

Thanks to Minimani wanting a sea-view meal on our Pohang trip, we ended up with an unexpectedly perfect lunch. Being able to enjoy wonderful pasta and dishes at one of the best ocean-view restaurants in Songdo, with the beautiful beach scenery spread out beyond the window, left my husband, me and Minimani all very satisfied. With great taste, atmosphere and view all in one place, Plan A Restaurant is somewhere we'd love to visit again the next time we're near Songdo Beach.
