It was the weekend, and I wanted to start the day at a slightly more relaxed pace, so I visited MELA Hongdae, a popular Hongdae brunch spot.

When I think of Hongdae, busy, crowded streets come to mind first, but MELA was a great place to sit back and enjoy brunch and coffee at an easy pace.

Personally, I think the atmosphere of the space matters just as much as the food at a brunch café.

The little decorative details and interior throughout were so pretty that it felt like stepping into a café somewhere in Europe.

Having a cup of coffee, chatting at leisure, and slowly enjoying a meal—that time is the charm of brunch, isn't it?

In that sense, MELA had an atmosphere that suited not only meeting a friend but also a Hongdae date. It was especially nice that, in bustling Hongdae, you can take care of both a meal and coffee in one place.

With wooden furniture and generously spaced seating, MELA Hongdae was a lovely place to linger! With the breeze feeling fresh these days, it was such a nice time to visit.

We came for weekend brunch and ordered the Victoria French toast, signature brunch plate, Americano, and latte.

First, our café menu arrived. Maybe because autumn was just around the corner? Photographed with wildflowers swaying in the breeze, it looked like a scene from a painting.

Victoria French Toast and Coffee

First up was the Victoria French toast I had been looking forward to at MELA. The moment it arrived at the table, it looked like the perfect brunch.

This menu starts with moist brioche toast, topped with banana brûlée and enjoyed with sweet syrup. The thick French toast had a soft texture with extra sweetness, making it great with coffee.

Especially, a bite of sweet French toast followed by coffee! It was a wonderful way to really feel like we had come out for brunch.

A Signature Brunch Plate Full of Variety

The menu we ordered alongside the sweet Victoria French toast was the signature brunch plate.

It is MELA's brunch menu, arranged with a range of ingredients on one plate so you can enjoy them in different ways with bread. It came with various roasted vegetables, which made it a good, wholesome breakfast. The plain bread also caught my eye.

The avocado and generous salad made this a satisfying brunch plate, too.

Perhaps because it naturally brought out the flavor of each ingredient, it was delicious without leaving me feeling heavy.

A Hongdae Date with a Meal and Coffee in One Place

Hongdae has so many cafés and good restaurants, but choosing a place for a date can be surprisingly difficult, right? Going somewhere for a meal and then moving on to find another café is nice too, but sometimes you want to sit in one place, talk slowly, and enjoy both a meal and coffee. When that is the mood, a brunch café like MELA seems like a good choice.

You can begin with brunch and enjoy coffee without leaving your seat, and the menu looks great, so it was also nice for creating a date-like mood. It would be lovely to follow brunch with a slow walk around Yeonnam-dong or Hongdae.

Brunch at MELA Hongdae was a relaxed treat after a long time! The Victoria French toast would suit anyone who loves sweet, soft brunch, while the signature brunch plate would suit those who want a filling meal with a little bit of everything.
