Hongdae Korean BBQ with grilled aged kimchi wraps: Gogikkun Gimchunbae
In short
Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch is a Korean beef and pork BBQ restaurant near Gyeongui Line Forest Park in Mapo, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Hongik University, Sinchon, and Sogang University stations. A group of friends took a window table and ordered the beef/pork set for two with kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) fried rice and half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles), and the staff grilled the pork neck and short rib along with aged kimchi and minari (water dropwort) in the rendered meat fat. The best part of Gogikkun Gimchunbae was never touching the tongs and still getting every cut cooked exactly right.

Where is Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch, and what is it like inside?

Every time I passed the cozy wooden exterior of Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch, I wanted to try it — so this time I finally went with friends! It's about 5 minutes on foot from Hongik University Station Exit 6, Sinchon Station Exit 7, or Sogang University Station Exit 2, which makes it a super accessible Korean BBQ spot in Hongdae.

The interior was spacious and clean, which made it feel like a great spot for a Hongdae or Mapo work dinner, or a Hongdae meetup with friends! No wonder several tables already had groups out for a company dinner.
What is on the menu at Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch?

The menu has Korean beef and pork sets, plus the option to order cuts individually. It was nice being able to enjoy both pork and beef together, and the sides were packed too — refreshing beef yukhoe (raw beef), minari beef yukhoe, kimchi fried rice, beef brisket doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), water naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon, and half-and-half naengmyeon.

What comes with the beef and pork set for two?
We ordered the beef/pork set for two along with kimchi fried rice and half-and-half naengmyeon, and they set the table with a generous spread! The set for two came with 250g of pork neck, 200g of short rib, and 150g of today's beef cut. Just looking at the spread made it seem delicious!

Beef grilled for you at a window table
Eating beef at a nice window seat looking out onto the street! It started with juicy beef. One thing I don't have to worry about at Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch is that the staff grill the meat to just the right doneness for you.

Before long the beef was grilled to just the right doneness! The beef was such good quality that when I ate a piece with nothing on it, it melted in my mouth so much my eyes went wide!

Grilled aged kimchi and minari wraps with pork neck and short rib
Next they grilled the short rib and pork neck in turn. On top, they gave the well-fermented aged kimchi and minari a quick sear in the meat's fat, and when I wrapped a bite of freshly grilled pork neck with a piece of that grilled kimchi and some minari, it was surprising how the pork had just the right chew while still melting away in my mouth.

The pork was also delicious wrapped in the scallion salad, and it was great piling it into a lettuce wrap loaded with various vegetables for a big bite!

Finishing the meal with half-and-half naengmyeon
To finish and reset our greasy palates, we had refreshing half-and-half naengmyeon! The broth, noodles, and the seasoning of the bibim naengmyeon side all worked so well together. It left our mouths feeling fresh and our stomachs satisfyingly full — even though we were stuffed, we still enjoyed every last sip of the broth.
The noodles had a nice chew and the broth was refreshing, cutting through the richness of the meat between bites. Especially after eating the grilled kimchi with meat, a sip of the tangy, cold naengmyeon broth cleared my palate so well that I kept going back for more.
Is Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch worth it for a group of friends?
The beef, pork, and even the side dishes were all so delicious, and best of all, I didn't have to grill anything myself — the staff grilled everything to the perfect moment. A truly satisfying Hongdae restaurant, Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch! For anyone looking for good meat as a Sinchon restaurant, a Sogang University restaurant, or a Sinchon BBQ spot, I highly recommend Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch 👍 If you're ever in Hongdae or Sinchon, definitely try the BBQ at this great-atmosphere spot~~
