Dongtan hair salon bob cut and root volume perm: Ava Hair Yeongcheon

Now that I'm in late pregnancy, there isn't a joint that doesn't hurt these days—knees, back, everything—and even washing and drying my hair had become such a chore 🥲 So I went looking for a hair salon to finally cut my hair short after 10 years, haha.

That's how I found Ava Hair, a salon in 2 Dongtan. I read that they don't push unnecessary treatments and instead listen to what style and concerns you have through 1:1 consultation, and I thought that would be perfect for me since I hadn't had short hair in a long time 👍🏻

Parking and first impressions at Ava Hair Dongtan Yeongcheon

Ava Hair Dongtan Yeongcheon is on the 2nd floor of a building at 693 Dongtan-sunhwan-daero, and I parked in the building's basement. After parking, I headed up to the 2nd floor with a mix of excitement and nerves.

As soon as I walked in, staff took my coat and bag and stored them in a locker, haha, and put a gown on me right away. I felt almost like a princess, lol. My stylist was senior designer Haneul, who had a pretty bob herself, which made me trust her a little more 🤭

The salon was bigger than I expected, with plenty of room for treatments. There were separate areas for cutting, perms, and waiting.

The bob consultation: choosing a tassel-cut-style bob

The style I chose at Ava Hair Dongtan Yeongcheon was a bob with light, tassel-cut-style ends. Before the treatment, we discussed what style I wanted and what my hair concerns were, and decided on the style together.

Me sitting in front of the mirror before the cut,,,, Actually the designer recommended a bob hippie perm, but I just said I'd go with plain short hair, lol. Next time I'll come back for a bob hippie perm (honestly, hippie waves suited me best when my hair was long ^^)

The designer told me to cut it myself, so snip snip, there went my hair. It was fun but felt so ~~~ strange. That's how I cut my hair shorter than chin-length and moved on to the root volume perm.

Is a root volume perm okay during pregnancy?

At Ava Hair Dongtan Yeongcheon, I only got a root volume perm instead of a tassel perm. My hair is so naturally straight that they worried a bob might end up sticking flat to my scalp, so they only did the root volume perm 😍

Mid root volume perm, lol. Being pregnant didn't mean I couldn't get a perm at all. But I imagine it would be tough for anyone sensitive to smells or dealing with morning sickness ㅜㅜ

While the perm was processing, they brought out drinks and snacks, and I had some cool buckwheat tea. I'd already had a coffee before coming, haha.

So the wait wouldn't feel boring, there was a phone charger and books available too‼️ I read a book called Lessons in Taking Action, and yep, ENFPs have plenty of dreams and things we want to do but are a little lacking in follow-through, haha.

After the perm, while rinsing out the solution, they even covered me with a warm blanket. Once again, I felt what a kind and considerate place this was 💕

How the first bob in 12 years turned out

And here's my finished bob!!!! Seriously, 12 years,,? It had been so long since I'd had short hair that it felt so awkward, but my husband said it actually looks better this way. Whether that's true or not,,,, haha. Still, thanks to designer Haneul, I ended up with a bob that really suits me, haha.
