Gyeongju dessert café for fresh pineapple mochi: Tareudang

In short

Tareudang is a takeout dessert shop in Hwangridan-gil, Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. I picked fresh chocolate, peach yogurt, pineapple, and mango mochi in a pretty gift box, with 500 won off each when buying four. The pineapple and fresh chocolate were especially memorable.

On this Gyeongju trip, I stopped by Tareudang (타르당), a popular dessert spot on Hwangridan-gil. I went right after eating at the delicious Korean restaurant next door. People had been lining up even before I got there, and the line kept going afterward too, so I knew I had to share a review haha.

Honestly, you can find mochi anywhere you travel, right? But these had all kinds of fruit with yogurt inside, which was so interesting, and they even had fresh chocolate, which I had never seen before. So I bought some for myself and some as gifts for people around me lol.

Tareudang location and visiting hours

The address is 49 Sajeong-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea (경상북도 경주시 사정로 49), and it is open daily from 11:00 to 19:00.

Tareudang is a takeout-only dessert shop. They keep making mochi inside, and a waiting line kept forming. Luckily, we visited early and were able to buy ours quickly!

Fruit mochi varieties and what I chose

Inside Tareudang

There was such a wide variety of fruit in the mochi! A few items were sold out on the day I went, but most were available. The varieties were fresh chocolate, fig, peach yogurt, mango, pineapple, and gold kiwi.

They were all delicious fruits, so choosing was really hardㅠㅠ Still, the sign said you get ₩500 off each when buying four, so I chose fresh chocolate, peach yogurt, pineapple, and mango!

They had desserts other than mochi too, so you may want to have a look! I came specifically for the mochi, so that is all I bought lol.

Mochi packaging that makes a great gift

Mochi prepared in pretty packaging

Tareudang packs everything in a pretty box that is perfect for gifting. Each mochi is also wrapped in cute packaging, so it really feels like a gift that will make the recipient happy.

Since the mochi is refrigerated food, it is best to bring it home in an insulated bag. We received one through a review event. If you are not eating them right away, be sure to refrigerate them so they stay fresh~

Isn't the packaging so cute??? Since it is mochi, it is sensitive to temperature and can soften easily, but they wrapped it carefully in two layers, so I did not have to worry about leaks. Confidently putting it on the bed!!!

How much fruit is in the pineapple mochi?

The outside is a paper wrapper and the inside is plastic, so it was safely stored too. This is the pineapple mochi I tried as soon as I got home! I thought, how much fruit could possibly fit inside mochi? But there was really much more than I expected?

It was packed with large chunks of pineapple. Maybe because of that, the mochi itself was huge too. One is seriously filling.

Peach yogurt and mango flavors

Next were the peach yogurt and mango mochi. The peach yogurt was so good because it had almost a whole peach inside! It was practically fruit wrapped in mochi dough. And the yogurt was sweet rather than very tangy, which was really delicious.

The mango was sweet and soft, making it easy to eat. I was honestly amazed at how fresh all the fruit was. The peach was almost crisp, while the mango was soft and perfectly ripe. The yogurt and red bean paste were really tasty too. They were not ordinary flavors; they went so well with the fruit that I could keep eating them without getting tired of them.

Fresh chocolate mochi with an Americano

Lastly, this was the fresh chocolate mochi that I, with my childlike sweet tooth, enjoyed the most! It is filled to the brim with fresh chocolate. Maybe because it had been refrigerated, the chocolate was slightly firm, so it almost felt like eating chocolate ice cream.

If you like soft fresh chocolate, you could let it soften a little before eating~ The chocolate is very sweet, so it pairs really well with an Americano!

Is it a good Hwangridan-gil gift dessert?

Tareudang, the Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil dessert spot I visited this time, was a really great place for gifts. These are desserts that fruit lovers would definitely enjoy. The pineapple and fresh chocolate especially were so good that I keep thinking about themㅠ If I go to Gyeongju again, I think I will go back to buy more haha.
