Daegu Korean restaurant on Suseong Lake festival day: Geumdeungeo
In short
Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is a Korean restaurant on Deulan-ro in Suseong, Daegu, serving mackerel cured in nuruk (rice yeast) salt and grilled in a wood-fired oven. On a Suseong Lake Festival weekend, the writer took the bus with her nieces and nephews, waited through remote queuing, then ordered grilled mackerel for three and spicy pork stir-fry for two, with a self-serve banchan bar, sonchae (leafy green) doenjang soup, and gangjeong, coffee and apricot juice to finish. Grilled mackerel for 19,000 won per person and spicy pork at 20,000 won are easy crowd-pleasers, so Geumdeungeo Deulanguil works well for a family outing.

On a late weekend lunch, I visited Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch, a well-known restaurant in Deulanguil, Suseong-gu, Daegu, together with my nieces and nephews.

We were looking for somewhere in Daegu for a family meal, and this place let us have both grilled mackerel and spicy pork stir-fry together, so we decided to visit haha😁😁
Where is Geumdeungeo Deulanguil, and where do you park?
Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is on the 2nd floor at 57 Deulan-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu, South Korea. There's on-site parking, and tower parking is also available.

The day we went happened to be the Suseong Lake Festival 2026, so we didn't drive — we took the bus instead😆😆
How remote queuing works, and opening hours
You can join a remote queue for Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch by clicking a link. Doing it about 30 minutes before arrival lined up the timing pretty well😁😁
Open daily from 11am to 9:20pm Break time from 3:30pm to 5pm Sunday closes at 8:40pm 📌Closed during Chuseok holiday
Right at the entrance there's a small waiting area, and they sell grilled mackerel, side dishes, and gangjeong (Korean sweet snack) separately there too.
Lots of people buy mackerel and side dishes to take home after their meal👍👍
Once our turn came up after the remote wait, staff showed us to our seats.

Inside Geumdeungeo Deulanguil: hall seating and private rooms
The interior is spacious with high ceilings, so even with lots of customers, it never felt loud or cramped.

There are private rooms too, so you could eat more privately if you wanted. 📌One dish per person required

What we ordered at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil and what it cost
✔️Wood-fired grilled mackerel, 1 person (age 8+) ₩19,000 / children (4–7) ₩10,000 ✔️Spicy pork stir-fry, 1 person ₩20,000
✔️Nuruk-salt wood-fired grilled mackerel x3 ✔️Spicy pork stir-fry x2

How does the self-serve banchan bar work?
At Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch, the banchan (side dishes) come out first, and there's a really good variety. At a hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) restaurant, the side dishes are as exciting to look forward to as the main dish.

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch serves several side dishes together, which paired nicely with a bowl of rice.
If you need more banchan, you can grab extra yourself at the self-serve corner

Instead of just eating one main dish, being able to pair it with little bits of several side dishes was exactly the Korean-style meal I love.
Mackerel cured in nuruk salt and grilled in a wood-fired oven
- Geumdeungeo says it's healthy because it adds nuruk salt — salt infused with beneficial microbes from rice nuruk (fermentation starter) — to nutrient-rich mackerel
- The salt used for the nuruk salt is apparently natural sun-dried salt from New Zealand's clean waters
- The nuruk-aged, wood-fired mackerel with its deep flavor and clean finish is Geumdeungeo's signature dish
- Grilled in a 450-degree wood-fired oven, the mackerel is said to be crisp outside, moist inside, and rich in flavor
The spicy pork stir-fry we ordered alongside the mackerel
It felt like a shame to only have the grilled mackerel, so we also ordered two servings of spicy pork stir-fry. Where the grilled mackerel is clean and savory, the spicy pork stir-fry comes with seasoning that goes great with rice.

A sonchae (leafy green) doenjang soup also comes out, and once it's simmered a bit, staff tell you to flip the hourglass timer and set the induction burner to level 3, then turn off the heat once the timer runs out👍👍
Wrapping a piece of mackerel in seaweed with some side dishes was seriously the best👍👍
This isn't just plain grilled mackerel — it's mackerel aged in nuruk salt then wood-fired, basically the ultimate omega-3 lol
The moment the grilled mackerel arrived, its golden-brown, perfectly grilled look was already mouthwatering.

The flesh was thick and went well with rice, and it wasn't just salty — it had a clean, savory taste that I really liked.
Grilled fish tends to be a safe bet with kids too, so it seemed like a solid choice for a Daegu family meal.
Along with the grilled mackerel and spicy pork stir-fry, we also had japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) and the sonchae doenjang soup, and having warm soup and side dishes together made the meal feel even more filling.

If you're visiting with a group, ordering both the grilled fish and the spicy pork stir-fry to share seems like a great way for everyone to eat according to their own taste.
The spicy pork stir-fry had really thick-cut meat with proper smoky char — the kids loved it too
Naver receipt review and notification perks at Geumdeungeo
📌Hand-fried ppeongtwigi (puffed rice snack) as a perk for leaving a Naver receipt review😆😆

📌A sample of cockle salad as a perk for opting into Naver notifications♥️

Dessert: gangjeong, coffee and apricot juice
Once we finished the meal, dessert was ready too.
Along with the gangjeong, we could have iced coffee and apricot juice. Finishing off a sweet piece of gangjeong with coffee or juice after the meal was the perfect end to our late weekend lunch.

They even have ice cups ready to go👍👍
The adults could have coffee and the kids could have juice, which worked out well for us visiting with the nieces and nephews.
Is Geumdeungeo Deulanguil a good family meal with kids?
Visiting with my nieces and nephews this time, having crowd-pleasing dishes like grilled mackerel and spicy pork stir-fry, plus a good variety of side dishes, made it a solid choice for a family meal.
Especially if you're visiting with a bigger group, it seems great for splitting different dishes, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a gathering spot in Daegu.
If you're looking for a clean Korean meal in Deulanguil or a place to eat with family near Suseong Lake, this is also worth considering if you're after a hanjeongsik restaurant near Suseong Lake.
A late weekend lunch with my nieces and nephews at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch, a Suseong, Daegu favorite — from nuruk-salt-aged wood-fired grilled mackerel to spicy pork stir-fry, a variety of side dishes, and dessert, we had a really filling meal :)
