In short

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish and Korean set-meal restaurant on Deulan-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu, near Suseong Lake. The writer visited with her baby and ate wood-fired grilled mackerel with spicy stir-fried pork (jeyuk); her husband finished three bowls of rice, and the staff wiped the baby chair with sanitizing wipes and brought water for the baby. With banchan you refill yourself at the self-serve bar, Geumdeungeo Deulanguil made for an easy family meal out.

Grilled fish set meal at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch

This time I went back to Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch. I'd visited a few times before, and every time I've been happy with it, so I decided to go again after a while. Once again I ate so well that I wanted to share it for anyone looking for a good spot near Suseong Lake in Daegu or a restaurant on Deulanguil.

What is on the self-serve banchan bar at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil?

At Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch, you grab your own banchan (side dishes) from a self-serve bar. I get a bit bothered when these bars are messy, but here it was kept clean, which I liked. If a side dish ran low, I could just go grab more myself instead of asking staff over and over — really convenient.

Near the entrance, alongside the self-serve bar, there was also a space for dessert and drinks.

Why wood-fired grilled mackerel is easier to eat out than at home

Geumdeungeo is the kind of place where you can eat grilled fish and spicy pork together for a hearty meal. Honestly, grilling fish at home is kind of a hassle — the smell lingers for ages, and cleaning up afterward is a chore. But at Geumdeungeo you get to eat neatly wood-fired grilled fish without any of that, which I really appreciated.

There was also a little something set up to wrap up the meal nicely afterward. The overall vibe of the place is clean and comfortable. Best of all, the tables were spaced generously, so I never felt crammed next to the next table over. It made it easier to chat during a family meal, and with my baby along, the extra room felt good too.

When eating out with a baby, beyond just the menu, things like the restaurant vibe and the baby chair matter more than you'd think — and Geumdeungeo Deulanguil branch had that covered too. They brought out a baby chair, and instead of just handing it over, they cleaned it thoroughly with sanitizing wipes first, which built a lot of trust. They also brought baby water separately, so I really felt how thoughtfully set up this place is for visiting with a child.

Mackerel and spicy pork: three bowls of rice for one husband

And for anyone who'd feel like grilled fish alone isn't quite enough, there's jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork). We ate grilled fish and jeyuk together, and the combo was genuinely great. A bite of mackerel with rice, then a spicy bite of jeyuk, then back to the fish — it was the kind of combo that just keeps the rice going. My husband actually ended up eating three whole bowls of rice that day.

The crispy grilled mackerel was especially delicious — crisp on the outside, moist inside, perfect with rice. Great for anyone who loves grilled fish, and also a solid pick for a family meal out with kids. Our little prince loves fish too, and he really tucked into the mackerel that day.

He's usually a good eater, but he really went at it here. Three bowls of rice for my husband says it all. One reason I love Geumdeungeo is how clean and orderly the banchan is — nothing too heavy-flavored, all of it good to eat alongside rice, and it paired really well with both the grilled fish and the jeyuk.

Closer to a full Korean set meal than a plain grilled-fish place

Overall the food came out so neatly presented that it felt less like a typical grilled fish restaurant and more like a proper Korean set meal (hanjeongsik). So this place should also suit anyone looking for Korean set meals or Korean food in Suseong-gu. And you can always grab more banchan yourself from the self-serve bar.

The staff were kind too, so the whole meal went smoothly without any hiccups. Parking was easy as well, so it was fine to visit by car. There are so many good restaurants around Deulanguil that it's hard to choose, but when you want a solid, filling family meal, this kind of Korean restaurant feels like the easiest choice.

When is Geumdeungeo Deulanguil the right choice in Daegu?

You know those days when you want grilled fish but don't want to deal with grilling it at home, and just want something clean and delicious? Geumdeungeo Deulanguil branch is perfect for that. Crispy wood-fired mackerel plus jeyuk, and banchan that's neatly done — it really felt like a proper, complete meal.

Visiting with my baby was easier too, since they took care of everything from the baby chair to baby water, and sanitized the chair before bringing it out. My little prince ate the mackerel so well that day, so it was worth bringing him along. If you're looking for a family restaurant near Suseong Lake, or Korean food, Korean set meals, or a solid Korean restaurant on Deulanguil in Daegu, this one's worth a visit. I've been before, and once again I left fully satisfied.

If you love grilled fish, love jeyuk, or love a Korean restaurant with clean, well-made banchan, you'll especially like this place. I'll definitely come back here next time I'm craving grilled fish. It's great for a hearty meal with kids, and it also suits family gatherings or meals with parents — Geumdeungeo Deulanguil branch, which I'd recommend to anyone looking for a good restaurant on Deulanguil in Daegu.
