Today I'm here to introduce a frozen pork belly spot in Namyangju!! It's honestly wild how much I've become a person who loves samgyeopsal (pork belly) lately haha. Today I was craving frozen pork belly more than fresh, so I made a quick trip to Chodaebak Naengsam — let's go with the review.
Where is Chodaebak Naengsam Pyeongnae-Hopyeong, and what is the outdoor-tent seating like?
Chodaebak Naengsam Pyeongnae-Hopyeong Branch sits right in the middle of Pyeongnae-dong's restaurant alley. There are outdoor tables, and even the indoor tables have an open-door, tent-like feel, so the interior is set up to let you enjoy the cool tent-dining season haha.
Inside, the tables are spaced generously so there's no hassle heading to the self-serve bar, and the roomy layout is great for group get-togethers or family gatherings too! They also sell glasses of wine — if I weren't off alcohol right now I'd have tried a glass. They're running a 50% off event, so it's ₩2,500 per glass!
What's on the menu at Chodaebak Naengsam
🐢 Here comes the Chodaebak Naengsam menu 🐢 It's organized into mains, soup/stew dishes, and sides, plus set menus so you can enjoy it affordably!! And you absolutely can't skip trying mul-naengmyeon or bibim-naengmyeon (cold noodles) for dessert after the pork belly, right?
Set 1: two frozen pork belly, one pork collar, with steamed egg, water parsley and mushroom
So we ordered Set 1! Two pork belly, one pork collar — the pork belly cuts were quite thick, so they looked like they'd be delicious! Set 1 also comes with steamed egg + water parsley + king oyster mushroom, complimentary! The king oyster mushroom came as a whole half cut fresh, and we grilled it up nice and soft and juicy~
The steamed egg that came with the set was soft and fluffy-looking and delicious, and the seasoning was just right, so even little kids could eat it too.
Is the cheonggukjang stew worth adding?
We ordered cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) with an adult's palate haha. I'd been craving cheonggukjang for days and kept singing its praises, and while ordering I prayed it would be good — and thankfully (?) as expected (?) it was delicious ㅠㅠㅠㅠ I'd really been wanting cheonggukjang for days, so I ate it happily and my partner and I mixed it with rice hahaha.
Which side dishes come with the meal?
The variety of side dishes was really impressive. Kimchi, egg soy sauce, bracken fern, radish salad, mushroom soy braise sauce, seasoned bean sprouts, grilling cheese, and pink sausage~~

The egg soy sauce... it kind of gave me the feeling of the TKG (tamago kake gohan) egg soy sauce sold at Don Quijote in Japan. I only remembered it after I'd already finished my rice, which was a shame. The sides had so much variety that it was great to mix and match, and the grilling cheese was so good hahaha. I never usually snack, but ever since being glued to my partner all the time I've developed a snacking habit... sigh.
The self-serve bar and free egg soy refills
The self-serve bar has the sauces all set up, plus peppers and garlic in generous amounts, so feel free to use it freely. If you ask for more egg soy sauce, you can get a refill with no extra charge~~
Grilling the pork and wrapping it in fresh water parsley
Such a great grilling time ~~ Writing this blog review is making me want to eat pork belly again ~~ I love eating water parsley raw too, so I dipped a lot of it straight into gochujang (chili paste), and that's why there's so little left, see? Hahahaha. Wrapped in lettuce with green onion salad and fresh water parsley tucked in, the wrap tasted amazing..👍🏻 Hongbbororo really loves wraps!!
We even finished off a whole pot of that amazing old-school grandma-style barley tea, and headed home stuffed full!
They also have a spicy hangover ramyeon, and I saw jjagyechi (a spicy noodle-egg-cheese dish) on the menu board too!!
