Yeouido fireworks tteokbokki takeout, tuna mayo bowl: Hyeonseonine

In short

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is a Korean snack restaurant (bunsik) in the underground passage at Yeouido Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. On the night of the Yeouido fireworks festival, the writer ordered takeout on the way to Han River Park: the Hyeonseoni Set for 23,000 won and a tuna mayo rice bowl for 6,000 won in medium spice, with a rice ball swapped in because the mini gimbap had sold out. Medium spice was hot for someone who can't take much heat, but tasty enough to keep eating, making Hyeonseonine a solid pick for a Han River picnic.

The Yeouido Han River fireworks festival was recently held, so I went to Yeouido Han River Park to watch it. And of course, when you're headed to Yeouido Han River Park, you need good food to go with it~ So I got takeout from Hyeonseonine, a famous tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) restaurant in Yeouido. I'd been before and loved it, so I came back for round two.

Hyeonseonine, the go-to tteokbokki spot in Yeouido

Hyeonseonine's IFC Mall branch sits in the underground passage that connects Yeouido Station to IFC Mall and The Hyundai Seoul. It's a good stop if you're eating in Yeouido before heading off to shop or on a date. And like us, it was also perfect for grabbing takeout before heading to Han River Park.

This tteokbokki spot in Yeouido was, once again, packed with people. The interior isn't huge, but it's split into indoor and outdoor seating, so there are quite a few tables. Since we planned to take our food to Yeouido Han River Park, we ordered right away.

Yeouido Hyeonseonine's menu has all kinds of snacks beyond tteokbokki — sundae (Korean blood sausage), fried snacks, mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll), and more, available as single items or sets. There's regular tteokbokki and instant-style tteokbokki, and you choose between mild, medium, or spicy.

Hyeonseoni Set 23,000 won and tuna mayo rice bowl 6,000 won: how they tasted

What we packed to go was the Hyeonseoni Set for ₩23,000 plus a tuna mayo rice bowl for ₩6,000.

The Hyeonseoni Set lets you enjoy tteokbokki, sundae, fried snacks, and mini gimbap all together. It's supposed to come with mini gimbap, but it was sold out that day, so we got a rice ball instead. Last time the gimbap was sold out too — makes me wonder just how good it must be if it sells out every single time haha. Snack food really is best when you get to mix and match like this~

How spicy is Hyeonseonine's medium tteokbokki?

We ordered medium spice again this time. I remember it being a bit spicy for me last time too, but I couldn't give up that addictive kick! Sure enough, from a spice-wimp's perspective, it was spicy again this time. But it's not just heat for heat's sake — it's tastily spicy, so I kept going back for more.

Broth-style tteokbokki from Hyeonseonine ordered in medium spice

The rice cakes were chewy and well coated in sauce — really good.

When the tteokbokki got too spicy, a bite of rice ball toned it down a bit, so eating them together worked out perfectly. The tteokbokki has a broth-style base, so you can dip the fried snacks, sundae, and rice balls that come with it right into the sauce.

We snacked on the sundae along the way too, and had fun picking through the tteokbokki and all the side items.

Tuna mayo rice bowl ordered as an extra

We also added a tuna mayo rice bowl this time. We were so hungry we each got our own bowl of rice, hehe. Having rice alongside the tteokbokki made the meal much more filling than tteokbokki alone.

Is Hyeonseonine worth it for Han River Park takeout on fireworks night?

It was a happy day — good food plus the Yeouido fireworks festival. If you're looking for a great tteokbokki restaurant in Yeouido, or a takeout menu to bring to Han River Park, give Yeouido Hyeonseonine a try~
