Why Plan A Restaurant for an ocean-view dinner in Songdo, Pohang?

Plan A Restaurant, a Pohang, Songdo favorite, is a Western restaurant with the sea stretched out right in front of it. On this Pohang trip, if lunch had been a bowl of cold raw fish soup (mulhoe) that really let me taste Pohang, for dinner I wanted something a little more leisurely — watching the sun go down over the water.

So I ended up at Plan A Restaurant, a Pohang, Songdo favorite.

It's close to Jukdo Market, so it's easy to stop by after browsing the market, and best of all, Songdo Beach spreads out right in front, making it great for a stroll before or after eating.

A room that feels like it has stood by Songdo Beach for years

The first thing I noticed walking into Plan A Restaurant wasn't the sleekness you get from newly opened restaurants these days, but a strangely familiar, comfortable atmosphere. It felt like the place had been sitting right there for a long time.

It felt like layers of time and memories from everyone who'd passed through had quietly built up here, so even on a first visit it didn't feel unfamiliar — it was genuinely comfortable. The customers were of all ages, and the whole vibe suggested plenty of longtime regulars in the neighborhood.

A little old-fashioned, but that somehow felt like the place's own charm.

The four dishes a family of four ordered at Plan A Restaurant

Since I was visiting with family this time, we ordered a good variety of dishes at Plan A Restaurant.

• Shrimp rosé spaghetti

I'd expected a decent, unremarkable meal, but dish by dish it turned out to be far more satisfying than I imagined. Every dish felt like it had real care put into it — the more I ate, the more I liked it.

Shrimp rosé spaghetti with minced shrimp in the sauce: the favourite

Of everything we ordered that day, my personal favorite was the shrimp rosé spaghetti.

Usually shrimp rosé pasta just means a few big shrimp on top, but here the shrimp had been minced and folded right into the sauce too. So every bite of noodles carried a faint shrimp texture, and the sauce itself had that extra shrimp umami built in. It was much better than expected — not just rosé sauce with shrimp in it, but a sauce with genuine seafood depth that kept me going back for more.

How the mushroom basil cream risotto tasted

The mushroom basil cream risotto had a nice balance of basil aroma and smooth cream sauce. Rather than being overly rich, it had just enough bite from the rice grains with a smooth finish.

It wasn't too heavy for the kids either, so it worked well as a family-friendly dish. If your kids like pasta, ordering the risotto alongside to share is a good move.

Spicy chili sauce fried chicken with a gentle kick

The spicy chili sauce fried chicken lived up to its name with a slightly spicy, salty punch. It went well with rice, and personally it made me want a beer to go with it.

Having one slightly punchy dish among the softer pasta and risotto made the whole spread work even better together.

Beef chop steak you can order with milder seasoning

The beef chop steak came with salad and fries, so it felt filling all on its own. Best of all, you could ask for the seasoning a little milder, and with the meat and sides together it was perfect for sharing among the family. Having a dish like this on the table made the whole meal feel that much fuller.

Care over polish inside Plan A Restaurant

Honestly, Plan A Restaurant is a bit different from the sleek, of-the-moment restaurants you see now. But oddly, that wasn't a bad thing at all. If anything, being a place that's been cooking in the same spot for years seemed to show in the care put into each dish,

and I think the time spent sitting comfortably and eating a good meal with family will stick with me longer than any flashy decor would have. The food was so much better than expected that I found myself thinking about it even after getting home — the kind of taste that made me think, 'Maybe I'll stop by again next time I'm in Pohang.'

Dinner followed by a walk along Songdo Beach

After finishing at Plan A Restaurant and walking along Songdo Beach right out front, I liked our evening choice even more. Eating with a sea view, strolling slowly along the beach, then stopping by a nearby café to unwind — that whole course.

On a Pohang trip, you don't always need to hunt down somewhere special — just having a good meal close to the sea like this was enough to feel like a real getaway. Cold raw fish soup for lunch, pasta with an ocean view for dinner. This was a dinner I really enjoyed on this Pohang trip.

If you want to see the sea and eat well in Songdo, Pohang, Plan A Restaurant is the kind of place I think I'll come back to on my next Pohang trip. That slightly worn-in comfort and food that was so much better than expected made this, for me, an especially memorable meal.
