Things to do in Busan: 8-second flip book photo booth at Jeonpo Times

Here's my review of Jeonpo Times, a photo studio in Jeonpo, Busan, where you can make a flip book. I heard there was a studio in Jeonpo where you could make a moving photo book, so I decided to check it out.

Where Jeonpo Times is and what it costs

Movie Photo Book Jeonpo Times is a self-photo studio at 52 Seojeon-ro 68beon-gil, Busanjin-gu, Busan, South Korea, on the 1st floor. It's near Jeonpo Station, so public transportation is more convenient than driving.

Walk a little way down Jeonpo Street and you'll find a small self-photo studio tucked in the alley under a cat-print tent — just head inside to take your photos.

Props, costumes and the flip book assembly corner

Once you're inside Jeonpo Times, there are all kinds of props to choose from before shooting, plus clothes you can try on. There's also a book cover and a stapler so you can assemble your own flip book right there after you finish shooting.

Right in the first section is a receipt photo machine you can use for free, so it's nice to snap one either before you shoot or on your way out as a keepsake. There's masking tape too, and a lot of people seem to stick their photos on the wall before they leave.

How to use the flip book booth

Inside the flip book booth there's a usage guide, and it's worth checking before you start. This was my first time doing a flip book so I was a bit confused at first, but there's a full shooting guide on the wall, and it helped a lot once I read through it.

Everything is written in foreign languages too, so it should be easy for international visitors to use — great for taking photos while traveling in Korea. Just touch the screen, choose the number of cuts, and pay.

Why you should keep moving for the full 8 seconds

They say you should move as much as possible during the 8 seconds to get a livelier result, so it's best to move around a lot while shooting. There's also a phone stand on top of the machine where you can rest your phone to photograph the final printout.

After shooting hard, you check your shots and pick your favorites. Since you shoot multiple times, try different poses each time and choose the ones you like; there's also a separate cover shot, so pick your favorite for that too and wait a bit.

Since there are quite a few pages, it takes a little time, but they come out one by one while you wait. Since it was my first time, it felt really fascinating. A few pages come out slightly out of order now and then, but they're all numbered, so just gather them and arrange them in sequence.

Once everything's ready, you choose a book design at the entrance and staple it together to finish — and when you flip through the actual photos, it really does look like they're moving, which was surprising and fun.

You can pick your own book design and end up with a completely new kind of photo souvenir — a flip book — which makes it a great memory to make with friends if you're visiting Busan.

A3 newspaper photos at Jeonpo Times

On your way out, there's another photo machine at the entrance — this one has a lot of large photos displayed in the store and lets you shoot in a newspaper-style format. After shooting, you can also choose newspaper headline text before printing.

There's also a big envelope next to it to carry your newspaper photo home in. The newspaper doesn't print out right away — you open the bottom a bit later and it's there. There's also a contact number listed in case anything malfunctions, so you can reach out if there's a problem.
