Shrek Galbi dinner with beef tartare and minari cold noodles: Yukmong
In short
Yukmong Bangi Direct Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Songpa, Seoul, near Seokchon Lake. On a weekday evening the writer ordered Shrek Galbi for two, beef tartare, mul-naengmyeon, Cheongdo minari (water parsley) bibim-naengmyeon and two bowls of rice, and found the sauce restrained enough to let the meat's own flavor shine. With group seating and convenient parking, it also works well for company dinners or family gatherings.

Lately, come evening, I keep finding myself craving a good piece of meat to shake off the day's fatigue. So this time I visited Yukmong Bangi Direct Branch with my family, a place that's gotten a reputation as a Korean BBQ spot for company dinners near Seokchon Lake.

A short walk from Seokchon Lake, and the mood inside
It's located on the Bangi-dong restaurant street, so it was easy to find, and it's close enough to Seokchon Lake that a stroll before or after dinner works nicely.
Even on a weekday evening it was busy, and I could see right away why it's popular. Walking in, the clean, comfortable atmosphere stood out.
The tables were spaced generously so it didn't feel cramped, and there was group seating too, which made me think it would suit company dinners or family gatherings well. The staff greeted us cheerfully and took care of everything quickly, so we had a genuinely pleasant time throughout the meal.

There really is a reason it's often mentioned as a Korean BBQ spot for company dinners near Seokchon Lake.

What we ordered that day
- Shrek Galbi for two
- Beef tartare
- Mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth)
- Cheongdo minari bibim-naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles with water parsley)
- Two bowls of rice

So how does Shrek Galbi taste?
Shrek Galbi (a green-marinated short rib) grabbed my attention just from the name, and the visual didn't disappoint either. It came pre-trimmed for easy grilling, and as it cooked on the grill the nutty aroma drifting up made me eager to try it right away. The staff even told us the perfect moment to eat it, so we got it at its best.

One bite delivered a soft texture and rich juiciness that filled my mouth, and the sauce wasn't overpowering, letting the meat's own flavor come through.

It was sweet with a lively savoriness, the kind of flavor anyone would like, regardless of age.

The side dishes and lettuce wraps
The side dishes came out neat and well arranged too. The fresh wrapping greens and various banchan (side dishes) paired well with the meat, and refills were easy to ask for without hesitation, which made it even more satisfying. Putting a piece of Shrek Galbi on lettuce with a dab of ssamjang (dipping sauce) made for a really good bite.
Eating it alongside the rice, the sauce matched so well that I kept reaching for more.

Beef tartare to enjoy while the meat grilled
Another dish I can't leave out is the beef tartare. The vivid color of the fresh yukhoe (beef tartare) was appetizing on its own, and the soft texture from the first bite left an impression.

There was no gamey smell, it was clean, and the nutty, sweet-salty flavor wasn't overpowering, the seasoning blended in well enough that my chopsticks kept going back for more. Popping the egg yolk and mixing it in brought out an even richer, nuttier flavor — a great light dish to enjoy while the meat was grilling.

It worked well both while waiting for the Shrek Galbi and as something to pair with it between bites of grilled meat — a different kind of charm each time. With both the meat and the tartare so satisfying, it was a memorable meal.

Mul-naengmyeon vs. Cheongdo minari bibim-naengmyeon
After enjoying the meat for a while, we ordered mul-naengmyeon to go with it. The cold broth was clean yet had depth, and the chewy noodles were great too. It cut through the richness of the meat nicely and was perfect to eat between rounds of grilling. Korean BBQ really isn't complete without mul-naengmyeon.

And the dish that stuck with me most was the Cheongdo minari bibim-naengmyeon. The fragrant minari aroma came through gently, and the tangy-sweet sauce coated the noodles beautifully. It had a different charm from an ordinary bibim-naengmyeon, and it paired really well with the Shrek Galbi.
Topping it with a piece of meat brought out a full burst of flavor, and I kept reaching for more. We also ordered rice to eat with the Shrek Galbi, and it really lived up to being a rice thief — the sauce matched the rice so well that we finished the meal feeling satisfied and full. The portions were just right for two people to enjoy comfortably.
How was it as a spot for company dinners or family gatherings?
What impressed me most was the staff's attentive service. They brought over any side dishes we needed right away and kept the grill clean, letting us focus purely on the meal. These small touches seem to raise the overall satisfaction of a restaurant.
Parking was convenient too, so visiting by car wasn't a hassle, and being on the Bangi-dong restaurant street made it easy to get to, which makes it a good recommendation for group gatherings. It seems like it would satisfy family dinners, friend meetups, and company dinners alike. Between the great meat and the cold noodles, this visit was truly satisfying. Visiting in person, I understood why so many people recommend Yukmong Bangi Direct Branch as a Korean BBQ spot for company dinners near Seokchon Lake.

The atmosphere, service, and food were all satisfying, so I plan to come back next time to try other menu items.
