Weekend gyukatsu with shrimp tempura add-on at Seoul Station: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet) restaurant on the first basement floor of the LG Seoul Station Building in Jung-gu, Seoul. Arriving at 1:30pm on a weekend still meant 4 people waiting ahead, and the order was Set 2 (gyukatsu, hamburg omurice and 2 drinks) plus cold soba and shrimp tempura, with each slice of beef grilled at the table on a personal butter brazier. Between the butter-grilled gyukatsu, the omurice egg that opens like a flower and the clean, cold soba, Ichigyu works well as a meeting spot right by Seoul Station.

After a while, a friend and I finally made time for a weekend meetup and decided on Seoul Station. It's central and easy to get to, and while looking for somewhere to enjoy a good meal and catch up, I heard there was a gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet) specialist with the look and feel of an actual Japanese eatery — visuals and taste both — so we went to check it out.

How long is the wait at 1:30pm on a weekend?

Since it's tucked into the basement of an LG office building, I figured it would be relatively quiet for weekend lunch. But even arriving at a late 1:30pm, there were already 4 people waiting ahead of us. Seeing a steady stream of guests coming down to a basement spot they had to seek out on purpose convinced me we'd found a genuine Seoul Station favorite.

After putting our name down, we looked around inside — it felt tidy and exotic, like actually stepping into a restaurant in Japan. The lighting was softly dimmed yet cozy, perfect for comfortable conversation. Couples on dates, office workers, and families out for a weekend outing were all enjoying their meals with ease.
What we ordered at Ichigyu: Set 2, cold soba and shrimp tempura

Among the sets featuring Ichigyu's signature gyukatsu, we ordered Set 2 (gyukatsu, hamburg omurice, and 2 drinks) plus a refreshing cold soba.

Gyukatsu grilled on a butter brazier that melts in your mouth
Crispy on the outside like a pork cutlet, but slice into it and you see gorgeous pink marbled beef — the visual alone was a work of art. Gyukatsu is beef coated in a thin batter and only lightly fried on the outside, then cooked further at the table on a personal mini brazier drizzled with butter. Being able to keep it warm the whole meal, cooked at my own pace, was a real plus — one bite off the brazier and the juices burst, melting away, the true taste of a Seoul Station favorite.

Hamburg omurice with an egg that opens like a flower
On top of fried rice sat a thick hamburg steak patty, crowned with a big, plump, glossy egg — I gasped just looking at it. When I cut into the egg with my spoon, it spread open like a blooming flower, draping over the rice like a blanket — the visual was fantastic. The egg was endlessly soft, and the hamburg steak itself was moist and tender — this would be the perfect dish to bring a kid to. The portion was generous too.

Clean, cold soba and crisp shrimp tempura
The broth was deep, not too salty, and cool — it cleansed the palate nicely between bites of the meaty dishes. The crispy shrimp tempura was plump and large. It still had the head attached, so this clearly wasn't cheap frozen shrimp. Adding the shrimp tempura made all three dishes come together beautifully.
Verdict: is Ichigyu a good meeting spot near Seoul Station?
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch was a top-tier Seoul Station restaurant — a cozy, Japanese-style setting where you can enjoy tender brazier-grilled gyukatsu and a top-notch omurice.
- Gyukatsu grilled to your own taste — beef fresh off the butter brazier, warm and moist to the last bite.
- A hamburg omurice that's a total visual win — soft, billowy egg unfolding over a moist hamburg patty.
- A clean, balanced cold soba — a deep, cool broth that rounds out the whole meal, an essential side.
Got a date or a meetup near Seoul Station? Definitely stop by Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch — it'll be a satisfying meal. There may be a wait, but being underground means you're free from the heat or cold outside, which is a nice bonus.
