Chicken gizzard fritters at Gyeryugwan, a Sindang Station restaurant
In short
Gyeryugwan is a chicken restaurant right in front of Exit 2 of Sindang Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, where whole chickens are roasted over oak with neungi mushrooms. Six adults and one baby, seven in all, shared two oak-fired chickens plus chicken feet in soup, dakgaejang (spicy chicken stew), fried chicken gizzard with scallion, chicken neck tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour style) and doenjang meat makguksu, and the rarer dishes — the gizzard fritters and the chicken neck tangsuyuk — were the standouts. There was no wait before 6pm on a weekday but the line grew long around 7:30pm, so Gyeryugwan is best visited early.

Sindang is so hot right now, isn't it? There are tons of trendy restaurants in Sindang, and every time I passed Gyeryugwan there was always a wait, so I finally went to check it out! Their oak-fired chicken with neungi mushrooms is the most famous dish, and the restaurant basically has every chicken dish you can imagine. I was impressed by how they use every single part of the chicken haha. We ordered a bunch of different dishes and tried them one by one — everything was so unique and delicious, it was a successful family meal. Here's my honest review of Gyeryugwan!

How long is the weekday evening wait at Gyeryugwan?
Here's the outside of Sindang Gyeryugwan. Anyone can tell it's a chicken place! You can see the wood-fired whole chickens roasting. The smell alone is insane lol.
I went just before 6pm on a weekday, and there was no wait, just the inside was packed with people. But by around 7:30, after we finished eating, there was quite a line! I'd recommend going a bit early. Table booking is available, but you can only register once you're there in person!!!
You can see the huge stack of firewood haha.
Here's the inside. It's not huge, but there are quite a lot of tables.

It's been on TV a lot too. It's been on Fin's Restaurant (편스토랑) and Live Tonight (생방송 오늘 저녁), among other shows. Confirmed Sindang hotspot!

What a table of seven ordered
Here's the basic side dish setup. We came as six adults and a baby, seven total. Our order was: two oak-fired chickens, chicken feet in soup, chicken stew, fried chicken gizzard with scallion, chicken neck sweet-and-sour pork style, and doenjang meat makguksu!

What does the oak and neungi mushroom wood-fired chicken taste like?
This is Gyeryugwan's signature dish! Not electric-roasted chicken — wood-fired chicken!
You can really taste the firewood aroma. The skin is crispy and delicious. It's a flavor you don't often get to try. Truly special!

Inside, it's stuffed with a ton of glutinous rice like it's about to burst.

The rice by itself has a strong neungi mushroom aroma and is healthy but mild, but if you top it with herring roe, it becomes way saltier and more delicious.

Even the baby was picking off pieces of chicken and eating happily.

It's even better with a light dip in salt.

Topping the meat with herring roe makes it even better. The added salty-spicy kick makes it so much more delicious.
The kimchi here is all delicious too. Eating it with the young radish kimchi and regular kimchi together was amazing!

Chicken neck tangsuyuk at Gyeryugwan
Next up is the chicken neck tangsuyuk! First time trying chicken neck tangsuyuk. Chicken neck meat is really tasty to begin with, right?
The sauce is a delicious sweet-and-sour tangsuyuk sauce, and the chicken neck is incredibly tender. Crispy batter with tender chicken neck inside — so good. Highly recommend the chicken neck tangsuyuk!

Fried chicken gizzard with scallion: don't skip the white sauce
Next is the fried chicken gizzard with scallion! I've never seen this dish anywhere else but Gyeryugwan. All the dishes here are unique and delicious.

Round chicken gizzards are inside, wrapped in a scallion fritter batter.
Fresh out of the fryer, it was so crispy and warm — what is this, so good.
It's not just plain batter, it's scallion batter, so it's delicious without being greasy. Even with the thick batter, it's still tasty. The gizzard inside is super chewy!!

You have to dip it in this white sauce!!! Seriously so good.

What comes with the chicken feet in soup
Next up is chicken feet in soup! I've never seen chicken feet look like this before lol.
It's not just chicken feet — there's a lot going on. There's rice cake like tteokbokki, soft-boiled eggs like gamdongnan, and bean sprouts and puju (freeze-dried tofu) too haha. The broth is delicious. It's sweet and spicy, like tteokbokki broth. Would probably be great mixed with rice too haha.
The chicken feet are cooked so soft that the bones just separate easily in your mouth haha. Everything overall was so delicious, we all dug in enthusiastically.

House-made noodles in the doenjang meat makguksu
Doenjang meat makguksu! This is also the first time I've seen or tried this style of makguksu. They make the noodles in-house, so I heard this makguksu is also a signature dish here.

They cut the noodles into bite-sized pieces and mix it up thoroughly.

The noodles are really chewy and delicious. Instead of being mushy, they have a nice chewy texture, and the sauce flavor is unique too.

This isn't like any makguksu I've had before — it's genuinely the taste of doenjang. The savory depth of the doenjang combined with the nuttiness of the sesame oil was so good.

Is Gyeryugwan's dakgaejang too spicy?
The last dish that came out was dakgaejang! It's spicier than it looks. It's packed with ingredients, very generous portion.
The broth flavor is very deep, but it's spicy enough that people who can't handle spice would struggle lol. I was sweating buckets while eating it. My tongue was numb. Rice is included, and I mixed it in.
It's delicious, so if you can handle spicy food, give it a try.
Final verdict on Gyeryugwan in Sindang
That's my honest review of Gyeryugwan's menu — every single dish was a new and delicious flavor you don't often get to try elsewhere!! If you're looking for a good restaurant in Sindang, a chicken feet place in Sindang, or a whole roast chicken place in Sindang, I strongly recommend Gyeryugwan.
