A few months ago I was walking by around lunchtime and spotted a really lovely-looking brunch restaurant. That was Melbirds. I told myself I'd have to come back sometime, and I finally made it. Melbirds is famous as a brunch spot, but we actually went for dinner — and it turned out to be just as good for an evening meal.
So let me introduce the Melbirds I visited!

Evening at Melbirds with the windows wide open, and how to book a table
We went right when dinner service started, just after break time ended. We'd called ahead to reserve, though you can also eat without a reservation if there's a seat available. The evenings have gotten pleasantly cool lately, and since Melbirds can open all its floor-to-ceiling windows, we got to feel the early-autumn air while we ate — it really added to the atmosphere.

The simple lighting and framed art paired really nicely with the wooden tables, giving the place a lovely mood. It seems like a great spot for a date or a special occasion too.

Is Melbirds good with kids? Baby chairs and baby tableware
Melbirds has baby chairs and baby tableware, so it's a good option to visit with kids. We sat right by the window and ordered.

We ordered the signature cream mushroom Jeju potato handmade gnocchi, the beef ragu tomato pasta our kid loves, and the omelette plate.

The pre-meal bread came out first and it was really delicious. Our kid loved it so much I barely got a taste. 😅

Beef ragu tomato pasta, 18,500 won
Melbirds' beef ragu tomato pasta was plated so beautifully. Even the serving tongs were pretty — shaped kind of like a spoon-fork hybrid — I wanted to bring one home. Everything came out still steaming right after being cooked, and just watching it really got my appetite going.

Our kid really loves ragu pasta. More than half the plate disappeared, all thanks to our little one. So proud!! A place where your kid eats well is a place worth going back to!

Omelette plate, 15,000 won and packed with vegetables
Melbirds' omelette plate is packed with vegetables. I'm a huge fan of boiled, grilled, and steamed veggies in general. The potato and egg were fluffy and nicely salty, the vegetables were moist, and I ended up eating basically all of them myself haha. There's pepper sprinkled on top, so it can be a touch spicy.

Cream mushroom Jeju potato handmade gnocchi, 16,500 won: a first taste of gnocchi
This is the signature cream mushroom Jeju potato handmade gnocchi — the dish I was most excited about. Honestly, this was my first time ever trying gnocchi. In simple terms, would you call it like a potato rice cake? I really, really love Korean potato pancakes (gamjajeon)! My first gnocchi ever had a texture somewhere between potato rice cake and potato pancake. It paired beautifully with the cream sauce and cheese too — genuinely delicious!
This gnocchi is definitely going to be my personal benchmark for gnocchi from now on! Watching my kid eat it happily made me so happy — I already know I'll be back.

After dinner at Melbirds
By the time we finished eating and stepped outside, it had gotten dark. My kid pointed up and said, 'Mom, look, the moon!' — and there was this big, bright, beautiful moon hanging in the sky. Getting to enjoy a great meal with my kid and make one more happy memory together made for a wonderful night.
Melbirds, a Jeju brunch favorite, is great for lunch and dinner just as much as brunch — I really recommend giving it a try.
