Mangpo Station EMS spa after yoga: 20-min body fat course at Xpa

In short

Xpa Suwon Mangpo is a warm-bath and EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) body-care spa on the 4th floor of Mangpo Plaza, right in front of Exit 5 of Mangpo Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Stopping by after a yoga class, the writer had an InBody scan and then took the body fat program — 20 minutes for 60,000 won, split into 10 minutes of fat burning and 10 minutes of recovery — in a 40°C warm bath, where the stimulation on the shoulders and trapezius was strong enough that staff turned the intensity down right away. Xpa is less a relaxing soak than a short, efficient treatment, which makes it an easy stop after work or after a workout.

An EMS spa combines a half-body bath with EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) — a program that uses EMS equipment to stimulate the muscles.

Parking at Mangpo Plaza for nervous new drivers

I've gotten a lot more interested in body shape care lately, so I visited Xpa Suwon Mangpo branch near Mangpo Station :) I parked in the building's parking lot! B1 was fine, but it was full, so I had to go down to B2 and the path down wasn't easy haha. If you're a new driver like me or drive a bigger car, using the paid parking lot outside the building might be a better idea.

How does an EMS spa session at Xpa work?

Since it was my first time doing an EMS spa, I was curious how it would go. Since this was my first time trying the program, I asked a lot of detailed questions. My schedule usually isn't very flexible, so since I was already there, I wanted to get more done and asked if a longer course was possible — but they explained that the 20-minute course was plenty.

First I filled out a consultation chart~~

Muscle-strength program vs. body fat program at Xpa

The programs are broadly split into a muscle-strength program and a fat-burn program, and I chose the fat-burn program. I was told the fat-burn program runs for 10 minutes in fat-burning mode and 10 minutes in recovery mode~~!

The course I took was the 20-minute, ₩60,000 course~

Before the treatment, I first had an InBody scan to check my current body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, and so on.

Inside the Xpa spa room: what to bring and the 40°C bath

After that, I moved to the spa room! They gave me clothes and underwear to change into ~! There was even a body dryer? Haha, I wanted to try it, and it was nice~~ haha

I could choose between a 40°C warm bath or a 41°C hot bath for the water temperature, and I asked for the 40°C warm bath. After being shown how to wear the waist band, I was also given instructions on how to use the EMS spa.

Here's the EMS spa I got today!! They set up slightly cool water, a sweat towel, and a phone stand in advance~! And a call bell in case I felt uncomfortable in the middle and needed to call staff~~

How strong was the trapezius stimulation?

As soon as I sat down, they explained everything. They tested the power level for each area — legs, waist, shoulders, and trapezius — and adjusted it to a strength suited to me. My shoulders and trapezius tend to be pretty tense in general, so I found this part quite stimulating. I was a little surprised at first, but they adjusted the intensity right away so I could get it in a way that suited my body's condition.

The EMS course ran for 10 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of recovery to finish. At first I thought 20 minutes might be too short, but once I actually tried it, it felt more substantial than expected. I'd gone straight from a yoga class that day, and I thought it would be nice to get this as a way to take care of my body after exercise.

During the treatment, I couldn't use water or my phone because of the vibration haha. It wasn't the relaxing spa feeling I'd imagined!!

And the shower room next door~~ body wash, hair shampoo, and hair conditioner are all provided~~ There was even a high-end scalp massage machine, which was nice

Why Xpa works as a stop after work or after a workout

I used to wonder how a spa could help with losing fat, but after trying it, I understood. The high-frequency stimulation seems to firm up the skin too, and I imagine getting steady micro-current stimulation for joints or other uncomfortable areas would be really helpful~~!! I think it would be good for people whose skin has sagged, people who lost weight rapidly, or people who've given birth. Best of all, it doesn't take long, so it feels less like a burden~~

I also liked that it's open late, so it's easy to visit after work or after a workout. If you're in your 30s like me and have gotten interested in body shape or fat management, it might be worth trying once to see if it suits you :) This was my first time experiencing it, and since it can be done in such a short time, it made me want to keep coming back for EMS spa sessions regularly!
