Gimpo raw fish bar with aged sashimi and spicy fish stew: Cheonmakjip
In short
Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch is a pojangmacha-style raw fish bar in Janggi-dong, Gimpo, a short walk from Janggi Station. The half-halibut, half-red seabream aged sashimi platter costs 36,000 won and the seodeori spicy fish stew 9,000 won, and adding sujebi (hand-torn dough) noodles to the stew is the move: the aged fish is soft and springy, the broth clean and fiery. Cheonmakjip also takes Gimpo Pay, and the writer has already set a return visit for next month.

Today I want to introduce a place I visited recently that completely won me over, from the vibe to the taste — a raw fish bar in Janggi-dong, Gimpo.

It's called Cheonmakjip (천막집), and it's absolutely packed with pojangmacha (street tent bar) vibes!!!

What Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch looks like: pojangmacha mood from the street in
Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch is an indoor raw fish bar just 245m from Exit 5 of Janggi Station in Janggi-dong, Gimpo, and honestly the vibe hits you right from the entrance. With the nice weather these days, it really feels like the kind of place made for a piece of raw fish and a drink under an outdoor tent bar atmosphere.

The fish tank was also kept really clean, which already built my trust in the freshness before I even walked in.

Once inside, the walls were covered in cozy little scribbles that gave the place a warm, comfortable feel.

It's clearly an indoor restaurant, but the atmosphere was styled so well that it genuinely felt like being at an outdoor tent bar — I was already in a good mood the moment I sat down.

Naver review event, what we ordered, and the free starters
On the table at Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch there was a QR code for a Naver review event — you could choose either Oreo ice cream or cold canned peaches. If you visit, definitely grab this freebie!

We ordered the halibut-and-red-seabream platter for ₩36,000, plus a seodeori spicy fish stew for ₩9,000 to help settle our stomachs.
After ordering, they brought out crunchy cucumber, carrots, and a hot, savory bean sprout soup as basic side dishes.

We portioned out just enough vinegar-chili sauce (chojang) and soy sauce from the table setup, chatted for a bit, and then the main dish we'd been waiting for finally arrived.

How does the aged halibut and red seabream platter taste?
The halibut-and-red-seabream platter at Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch is ₩36,000, and the colorful, beautiful presentation made it impossible not to take photos!

With the main fish platter out, we clinked our glasses first before really digging in. One of the most impressive things about the fish was how well it had been aged (sukseong).

Both the halibut and the red seabream were clearly aged really well by the owner — the texture was so soft and chewy!! With a little wasabi rolled into the fish and dipped in soy sauce, the umami just exploded in my mouth.
I usually like dipping halibut sashimi in salt, so I asked for some separately and tried it that way too, but that day, thanks to the distinct umami of the aged fish, dipping it in soy sauce was by far the tastiest combination.
Why sujebi noodles in the seodeori spicy fish stew are a must
The seodeori spicy fish stew at Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch is ₩9,000, and we added sujebi (hand-torn dough noodles) on top of that. After enjoying the raw fish for a while, the hot and spicy stew arrived.

The pot was full of big chunks of fish along with radish, minari (water dropwort), and bean sprouts, making the broth wonderfully hot and refreshing.

Even the sujebi noodles had a nice chewy bite — there's nothing better as a drinking snack. My mood naturally lifted that night, and the drinks just kept flowing.
Gimpo Pay accepted: final verdict on Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch
Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch also accepts Gimpo Pay. We finished everything on the table and, when we went up to pay, noticed Gimpo Pay was accepted too. Good to know if you use the local currency card!

From the food to the pojangmacha atmosphere, everything was so satisfying that I'm definitely planning to come back next month.

I have a feeling every menu item here would be satisfying, so next time I want to try other kinds of sashimi or side dishes too 💓

If you're near Gimpo looking for a Janggi-dong seafood bar with a great atmosphere and delicious aged sashimi, I'd 100% recommend Cheonmakjip! (Honestly, I'm a little worried it'll get too popular and I'll end up facing long waits the next time I go...)
