Ingye-dong BBQ in Suwon: shiitake pot rice and wasabi prime rib
In short
Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch (짚불태백 수원인계점) is a Korean BBQ house on Nahyeseok-gil in Ingye-dong, Suwon, where staff grill the beef at your table. Two diners ordered two 300g servings of udae galbi (thick-cut bone-in prime rib), two shiitake pot rice sets and 8 pieces of tteok-ssam (rice cake wraps), and the prime rib with wasabi plus the pot rice finished with sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) stood out most. Jipbul Taebaek is an easy pick for first-timers, since staff explain several ways to eat the prime rib.

I finally got out for dinner on Nahyeseok-gil in Ingye-dong, Suwon. This time I visited Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch!
I usually love meat, so I was hunting for a place to eat in Ingye-dong and found this spot, where staff grill the prime rib for you. I'd actually never properly had prime rib before, so this was my first time trying it. Long story short — it was way better than I expected, so it turned out to be a really satisfying meal haha.

Where is Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch, and what is the space like?
Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch is located on Nahyeseok-gil in Ingye-dong, Suwon. If you're looking for somewhere to eat around Nahyeseok-gil, it's not hard to find.

Walking inside, the space was more spacious than I expected, and the tables were neatly arranged. There were two of us, but the table spacing wasn't cramped at all, and it looked like a place that could comfortably fit a bigger group too. I thought it'd be a good option for gatherings or company dinners in Ingye-dong.

What two people ordered: 300g prime rib each, shiitake pot rice, 8 tteok-ssam
There were two of us that day, so we ordered:
- Prime rib 300g x2 servings
- Shiitake hodgepodge rice x2
- Tteok-ssam (rice cake wraps) 8 pieces
At first I thought we'd just get the prime rib, but I was curious about the hodgepodge rice and the tteok-ssam too, so we ordered those as well. The tteok-ssam especially — I saw it on the menu and had no idea what it was, so I ordered it out of curiosity, but I ended up eating a lot of it later haha.

Prime rib grilled by staff: why wasabi was the best pairing
The prime rib arrived looking pretty appetizing from the start. Staff came over to grill it for us themselves, so we could just relax and eat.
While grilling, the staff member also explained which sauces went well with the meat and how to eat it. I tried each recommended pairing, and personally, the combination of wasabi and prime rib worked really well.

What I liked most was that the seasoning wasn't too strong. It didn't overpower the meat, so you could really taste the meat itself. Since this was my first time trying prime rib, I was curious what it would taste like, and it turned out way better than I expected — I stayed satisfied the whole meal. With staff grilling it for us, there was no worry about it burning or being undercooked, and we got to eat it at its best right away. I get why a lot of people looking for good Ingye-dong BBQ places prefer spots where staff grill for you.

Shiitake pot rice at Jipbul Taebaek, finished with scorched-rice tea
Meat alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, so we also ordered two servings of shiitake hodgepodge rice. Maybe because of the shiitake mushrooms in it, it was both savory and full of umami. The portion was bigger than I expected too — plenty to go with the meat.

You've got to finish hodgepodge rice with scorched-rice tea (sungnyung) haha. After eating most of the rice, finishing with the scorched-rice tea felt soothing on the stomach and gave the meal a clean finish. If you're someone who always eats rice alongside your meat, I'd recommend ordering the shiitake hodgepodge rice too.

Tteok-ssam, 8 pieces: rice cake wraps dipped in soybean powder
The dish I ordered purely out of curiosity that day was the tteok-ssam. At first I thought, wait, is this wrapping meat in rice cake? But when I actually tried it, it went together surprisingly well.

The idea is to wrap the meat in the rice cake and dip it in soybean powder. Honestly, at first I thought, what kind of combination is this?! But after one bite, it worked so much better than expected that I kept eating tteok-ssam after that. The savory, salty meat plus the chewy texture of the rice cake plus the nuttiness of the soybean powder made for a surprisingly addictive combo. If you like trying new food pairings, give the tteok-ssam a shot. I ordered it out of curiosity but ended up really liking it haha.

Is Jipbul Taebaek good for a date or a company dinner in Ingye-dong?
What struck me most this visit was how comfortable the meal felt thanks to the staff's tableside grilling, not just the meat itself. They grilled the meat and showed us how to eat it, so even as first-timers we could easily try several different combinations. Especially since it was my first time having prime rib, I appreciated being shown how to eat it properly.
The meat itself was great, but trying it different ways — with wasabi, tteok-ssam, soybean powder — meant we got to enjoy one dish in multiple ways. It seems like a good option if you're looking for a dinner spot for a date on Nahyeseok-gil in Ingye-dong, or want good meat with friends. The tables are spacious too, so it's worth keeping in mind for anyone looking for a gathering or company dinner spot in Ingye-dong.

My first time trying prime rib turned out way better than expected at Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch! The seasoning wasn't overdone, so the meat's flavor really came through, and having staff grill it for us made the meal so easy. I especially loved pairing it with wasabi, and the tteok-ssam, which I ordered out of curiosity, ended up being memorably good too haha. The shiitake hodgepodge rice was savory and full of umami, and finishing with scorched-rice tea made for a hearty, clean ending to the meal.
If you're craving something special on Nahyeseok-gil in Ingye-dong, Suwon, or looking for a good Ingye-dong BBQ spot, give Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch a try for the prime rib. Even if it's your first time trying prime rib like it was for me, the staff will walk you through how to eat it, so you can enjoy it in plenty of tasty combinations :)
