It had been a while since I went out with my family for some good meat. This time we visited Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch, near Pungmu Station. I'd been craving pork ribs and looked around before deciding to go, and since meat alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, we ordered naengmyeon (cold noodles) too and had a proper full meal.
What to order at Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch
That day at Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch we ordered king pork ribs, mul naengmyeon, and bibim naengmyeon. I'm a big fan of the pork rib and naengmyeon combo, so I was excited even before the meat arrived.

Seasoned pork ribs especially — the smell alone as they hit the grill is enough to make your appetite spike. 😋

Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch is a great spot when you're craving meat near Pungmu Station. Barbecue restaurants tend to draw family outings and dinner crowds, and that day there were plenty of guests dining comfortably around us. We came for a casual dinner too, and it was nice that the menu wasn't complicated to figure out.
When I eat meat, I prefer ordering one solid meat dish and pairing it with naengmyeon rather than piling on lots of side dishes, so this combination was just right. We ordered the king pork ribs and started grilling them on the tabletop grill.

Grilling king pork ribs at the table
The king pork ribs came pre-seasoned, so as soon as they hit the grill the surface started browning nicely. There's something exciting about pork ribs cooking on the grill — the sweet marinade smell drifts up as you go. We flipped them for even cooking, and even the edges got grilled to a mouthwatering finish, making us hungrier just watching.

I cut the well-cooked meat into bite-sized pieces and tried a piece. The signature sweet-and-salty flavor of seasoned pork ribs hit first, and as I chewed, the savory pork flavor came through too. The seasoning wasn't overly intense — it was a flavor that paired well with rice or naengmyeon.
A piece of meat on its own is already delicious, but pork ribs really shine with rice, too. Placing a well-grilled rib on warm rice, the sweet marinade and rice went so well together that my chopsticks kept reaching for more.

How thick-cut marinated ribs grill best
At a barbecue restaurant, the fun of grilling it yourself is part of the experience. At first, I cooked slowly to check on the meat, then cut it into bite-sized pieces once it was cooked enough. Since these ribs have some thickness, cooking them through rather than just browning the outside matters, so I kept flipping them along the way. I ate the well-cooked pieces right away and kept the rest on the grill so they stayed warm — seasoned ribs really do taste best hot off the grill.
I tried the ribs both wrapped in lettuce and on their own, and each had its own charm. Wrapped with vegetables, it felt a bit cleaner and lighter; eaten plain, the sweet marinade and savory meat flavor came through fully.

Why Galbigumteo works for a family dinner in Gimpo
Grilling king pork ribs and eating naengmyeon alongside made for a quite filling meal. I thought starting with just meat wouldn't fill us up much, but by the time we finished the ribs and the naengmyeon, we were pretty full. Especially for family outings where tastes differ, pork ribs tend to be a menu that's hard to dislike, so it works well as a shared dish. Eating the meat hot off the grill and the naengmyeon cold made for a great combination for one meal. It was also nice for chatting over the meal, and a comfortable menu setup for a leisurely family dinner.

At Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch this time, we had king pork ribs along with both mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon. Pork ribs really are best grilled golden brown on the tabletop grill and eaten right away. Grilling the seasoned ribs on both sides and eating them hot brings out both the savory meat flavor and the sweet marinade, and pairing them with naengmyeon in between cleanses your palate so you keep wanting more. Ordering both mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon together was especially nice since we could each pick based on our mood. One side was cool and refreshing, the other tangy and spicy, so even with the same meat we kept getting different flavor experiences.

Mul naengmyeon or bibim naengmyeon: which to order
After eating a fair amount of meat, I started craving naengmyeon. Eating pork ribs without naengmyeon somehow feels like the meal isn't fully wrapped up. 😂 So we ordered both mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon separately — it was too hard to pick just one, so we decided to just try both.
We started with the mul naengmyeon. Taking a sip of the cold noodle broth in between bites of meat felt refreshing on the palate. Since the marinade flavor lingers as you eat meat, having a cold noodle soup in between revives your appetite. I loosened the noodles with chopsticks, ate them with the broth, and paired a bite with a piece of rib. This combination is hard to mess up. The cold, refreshing naengmyeon against the warm, sweet pork ribs created a clear contrast that made both taste even better.

Bibim naengmyeon had a completely different charm from the mul naengmyeon. Mixing the sauce evenly through the noodles brings a tangy, spicy flavor that spreads through your mouth. Since the pork ribs themselves have a sweet marinade flavor, pairing them with bibim naengmyeon adds a tangy-spicy kick that really wakes up your appetite. I usually like mul naengmyeon with meat, but I also think bibim naengmyeon pairs well with seasoned ribs, so I was glad we ordered both that day.
Mul naengmyeon is great for a cool, clean finish, while bibim naengmyeon is great as a tangy-spicy pairing with the meat. If you have to pick just one, go with your preference — mul naengmyeon if you like clean and refreshing, bibim naengmyeon if you like tangy and spicy.
If you're having dinner with family near Pungmu Station, or looking for a pork rib restaurant in Pungmu-dong for a day when you're craving pork ribs, this place is worth a visit. It was a day we ate king pork ribs and properly paired them with naengmyeon, and left full. Next time I'm craving pork ribs, I'll be sure to grill some meat and have naengmyeon alongside again. 😊
