Yeouido sushi restaurant with futomaki and shrimp sushi trio: Ilpum
In short
Ilpum Yeouido Branch is a kaisendon and sushi restaurant on the first basement floor of Anwon Building in Yeouido, Seoul, a three-minute walk from Exit 1 of National Assembly Station. The order was a premium kaisendon with a shrimp sushi trio and a half roll of futomaki, along with chawanmushi, cold udon and mango pudding, and the bite topped with fatty tuna belly stood out as the best kaisendon of the visit. With plenty of bar seats, Ilpum Yeouido Branch suits solo diners and lunch for two especially well.

Today I visited Ilpum Yeouido Branch — I planned this trip specifically for a Japanese meal in Yeouido. It's about a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of National Assembly Station, so it's super accessible right by the subway.

Bar seats and the mood inside, even for solo diners
The interior has a cozy wood-tone look that reminds me of a high-end omakase spot. There are plenty of bar-table (dachi) seats, great for solo diners or couples, and lots of 4-person tables further inside too. It felt clean and comfortable, with plenty of space between seats.

What is on the menu?
As you'd expect from a kaisendon specialist, the seafood-based rice bowl menu is broken down in detail.
- Signature: Kaisendon, Premium Kaisendon, Unagi-don (eel rice bowl), Sushi Omakase set
- Kaisendon: Ilpum-dong, Uni-doro-don, Sashimi-don, Uni-ikura-don, Honmaguro Tsuke-don, Aburi-don, Salmon Sake-don, Chicken Karaage-don, Seasonal Buri-don
- Sushi: Today's Sushi, Futomaki (whole/half roll), White Fish Sushi Set, Maguro Special Futomaki, Salmon Sushi Set, Shime-saba Bo-zushi, Seasonal Buri Sushi Set
- Single sushi orders: Nigiri Sushi Trio, Gunkan Sushi Trio, Maguro Sushi Trio, Shrimp Sushi Trio, Maguro Tekka-maki
- Sashimi & fried: Sashimi Moriawase, Uni Samhap, Shime-saba Sashimi, Seasonal Uni, Seasonal Buri Sashimi, Unagi & Tamagoyaki, Chicken Karaage, Geoje Sum-gul (oyster) Fry, Hokkaido Scallop Croquette, Crab Cream Croquette
I ordered the premium kaisendon, the shrimp sushi trio, and half a futomaki roll.

Side dishes and chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard)
When I ordered the kaisendon, this is the side spread that came out: white kimchi, a clear soup, and chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard). The chawanmushi had a sheet of gamtae (seaweed) in it, and even ginkgo nuts — I was surprised at how carefully even the simple sides were made, nothing thrown together carelessly.

Premium kaisendon (sashimi rice bowl): the best one yet
This is the premium kaisendon. The visuals are insane, right? And it's not just looks — the quality of the ingredients is insane too. This kaisendon is genuinely the best. Off the charts. Crowned the best kaisendon of my life. Tuna, uni, salmon roe, salmon, sea bream, abalone, monkfish liver, sweet shrimp... a pile of ultra-high-quality, insane ingredients.

After scooping up a spoonful of rice, they top it with a piece of fatty tuna belly and a little dab of wasabi. And when you take that bite? I honestly felt like I'd gone to heaven. You all need to try this. If you come to this Ilpum branch, get the kaisendon, no question. It's also great wrapped in a sheet of seaweed. Ugh, I'm getting hungry just writing this.

Half roll of futomaki (thick sushi roll) and the shrimp sushi trio
On the left is the half futomaki roll, which comes as 4 pieces. Inside it's packed with crispy fried shrimp, crunchy cucumber, soft rolled egg, and tuna. It's honestly huge — but you know you're supposed to eat futomaki in one bite, right? That mouthful-filling feeling is the whole charm of futomaki. The ingredients balance really well together, so you keep reaching for more. Quietly a great-value item too.
The shrimp sushi trio is three pieces prepared in different ways — sweet shrimp, raw shrimp topped with caviar, and mantis shrimp, all varied and interesting. You really get that shrimp umami and nuttiness. I love shrimp, so this one sent me to heaven too.

Cold udon topped with fried chicken
This is the cold udon, topped with fried chicken. It's chicken sitting in liquid, and yet somehow it stays so crispy — what kind of technique is that? Cool, savory, and really delicious.

Mango pudding to finish
This is the closing dessert — a yellow mango pudding of sorts that lets you wrap up the meal on a clean, sweet note. One soft, sweet spoonful and I genuinely felt spoiled, haha.

Would I go back?
Nice touch — they even have dental floss on hand, so I left with clean teeth too. I highly, highly recommend Ilpum Yeouido Branch. It was such a genuinely delicious meal. I'll definitely be back next time paying with my own money.
