Jeonju Hanok Village chicken shop: parking tip and free chicken toy

In short

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is a dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) takeout shop on Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village. On a packed weekend the large half soy sauce, half mild order cost 30,000 won and was more than five adults could finish, and a Naver receipt review came with a free chicken toy. Parking at the Ssajeon-dari lot and walking five minutes in makes Mannyeon Dakgangjeong an easy stop when hunger hits mid-trip.

Last weekend I went to Jeonju Hanok Village as part of my Jeonju trip. It's famous for Jeonju street food and always has a huge waiting line, so here's my review of Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store.

Where to park at Jeonju Hanok Village: Ssajeon-dari lot, 5 minutes on foot

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store sits right on Taejo-ro, 1st floor, smack in the middle of Jeonju Hanok Village, so parking is always a headache. The public parking lots in the hanok village work fine, but using the Ssajeon-dari parking lot is actually more convenient. It's only about a 5-minute walk to the hanok village from there, so I parked without any hassle. A little tip worth knowing :) Highly recommend this Jeonju Hanok Village parking spot!

Even though it was mid-September, the weather was gorgeous last weekend and Jeonju Hanok Village was packed with tourists as part of everyone's Jeonju trip. Mannyeon Dakgangjeong had a noticeably long line and was clearly one of the most popular spots, so I bought some seasoned and soy sauce dakgangjeong (fried chicken bites) to enjoy with my family.

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong menu and how the half-and-half works

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong offers four flavors — mild, spicy, soy sauce, and fried — plus shrimp gangjeong, and you can mix flavors half-and-half. I ordered a large with half soy sauce, half mild. While wandering around Jeonju Hanok Village, the freshly fried dakgangjeong looked so good I ordered right away. Besides chicken gangjeong, you can also try shrimp gangjeong, so pick whatever suits your taste. Isn't this basically the classic fried chicken foursome? Haha!

For sides, there's sotteok-sotteok, sweet potato cheese sticks, ppondegi fritters, and cheese balls. I debated whether to get the ppondegi too, but my ever-expanding belly... haha, my conscience got the better of me. Taking a reflective attitude, I decided to just stick with the dakgangjeong~

The Naver receipt review gift: a chicken toy

If you write a Naver receipt review, they give you a gift! You can choose between a chicken toy or sotteok-sotteok, and this chicken toy... it's actually my dad's all-time favorite haha haha. I noticed only little kids usually get one, but I got a chicken toy too even though I'm a full grown adult haha. It's a surprisingly thoughtful little review event gift!

The outside was crispy and the inside was moist, so the texture was great, and the sauce was sweet and savory without being too intense, making it addictive! Kind of like Saeukkang (shrimp cracker snack)~

Is the 30,000 won large size enough for five adults?

The large size at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is ₩30,000, and I was shocked by how much came in the order. It was enough that five adults still had leftovers. After waiting about 5 minutes, they packed it up beautifully coated in sauce. Since it's boneless, it's easy to eat, and the soy sauce and mild flavors are so good they pair perfectly with beer.

The chicken had no gamy smell and was tender, so it was delicious. It's great as a light snack and also perfect for casually enjoying while walking around the hanok village. Dakgangjeong is love!

Chimaek at home with the baseball game on

Isn't the portion genuinely huge? It'd be great to buy some for a Jeonju picnic too. There was a Samsung game on that day, so I enjoyed chimaek (chicken and beer) at home while watching baseball.

There was zero gamy taste, so it was clean and easy to enjoy without any resistance. The batter wasn't overly thick either, so it never got sickening, and my stomach didn't feel overly heavy afterward.

Mild flavor: sweet enough for kids to eat

The mild flavor is a delicious, non-spicy seasoned chicken taste! It's full of sweetness, so even little kids can enjoy it happily.

Soy sauce flavor: sweet, salty and made for beer

If you really know your flavors, shouldn't you pick soy sauce? Haha. As the classic sweet-and-savory combo, it went down really well with beer, glass after glass. Mannyeon Dakgangjeong — a regular go-to and a must-try spot in Jeonju Hanok Village! I hope you pick a menu that can't go wrong and have a delicious Jeonju trip 🩷 Recommended as a place worth trying once when you get hungry during your Jeonju trip!
