Jeonju dakgangjeong takeout too big for four adults: Mannyeon

In short

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is a dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken bites) takeout shop on the Taejo-ro food alley in Jeonju Hanok Village. A large half soy, half spicy order taken back to a guesthouse was more than four adults could finish, and the chicken stayed crisp both straight from the fryer and after it cooled. For anyone spending a night in Jeonju, Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is a takeout pick worth making.

Takeout dakgangjeong from Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store, cover photo

Hello! It's been reeeally a while since I went to Jeonju Hanok Village! Honestly, going to Jeonju Hanok Village isn't just about looking at hanoks haha. Every time I go, my heart starts racing just thinking about the street food...

Before I go I always look up what street food to eat! It seems like the trends change so fast, but there's one menu that never changes!!! 🌟The classic🌟 How can you resist dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy fried chicken bites)? If you're staying overnight nearby in Jeonju, people take dakgangjeong back for lunch and again as a beer snack at night!🔥 I heard there's a place where it's delicious even after it cools, so I ran straight there!☺

Jeonju Hanok Village has a sort of plaza in the middle, and the whole front area is the food alley, so it should be easy to find~

Dakgangjeong was available for takeout~ I also came for takeout!

Slushy beer and jjondeugi (chewy fried snack) sold at the same counter

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store operates alongside Gyodong Jjondeugi (a chewy fried snack), so you could buy slushy beer and jjondeugi in the same spot. Wow.... slushy beer is sold all over Jeonju Hanok Village, but they also sell the famous jjondeugi here?

Turns out jjondeugi and dakgangjeong are run together here!!!! Has anyone actually tried fried jjondeugi as a beer snack??? It's honestly the best pairing?

If you're looking for slushy beer, I highly, highly recommend buying it at Gyodong Jjondeugi and picking up dakgangjeong at the same time!

I took a video of the overall shop atmosphere~ hope it helps!

Dakgangjeong sizes and the shrimp gangjeong option

Mannyeon's dakgangjeong comes in two sizes, medium and large, and you can choose between spicy, soy sauce, or mild flavors. The shrimp gangjeong is a menu item where a whole shrimp is deep-fried.

Okay, the important part is the price, let's look at the dakgangjeong prices~ They sell dakgangjeong in medium/large sizes!

Shrimp gangjeong turned out to be a whole shrimp fried in one piece! The flavors are the same as dakgangjeong — spicy, soy sauce, or mild : )

Ahh~~ I really agonized over it, but since I love fried chicken so much, I got the half-and-half large dakgangjeong to take out!

Dakgangjeong being re-fried after ordering
Sauce being tossed in the kitchen at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong

Since they re-fry it fresh the moment you order, it takes about 5 minutes~ And since they toss it in sauce right after frying, it was truly.. a happy wait hahaha

How much is a large half-and-half? More than four adults could eat

The large size ordered half soy sauce, half spicy was so much that even four adults couldn't finish it. After waiting about 5 minutes, I got the freshly fried dakgangjeong, and I could even hear the sauce being tossed.

After a short wait, the dakgangjeong came right out! Ahh, T_T soy sauce and spicy sauce, and it was really crispy — you could even hear the sizzle when it was taken out;;

Large dakgangjeong served half soy sauce, half spicy

I got the large size, but wait, this is basically the amount of two whole boneless fried chickens??? Four adults ate it and still couldn't finish it by evening lolol! It was just way too much!!

Does the dakgangjeong stay crisp back at the guesthouse?

Mannyeon's dakgangjeong comes packed in a bag for takeout, so I could carry it back to the guesthouse without spilling. I tried it both freshly eaten right at the guesthouse and after a long time when it had cooled, and both were delicious.

With takeout, they pack it in a bag like this so you can carry it without spilling~ that was nice.

La-la-la, carried it back to the guesthouse! . . I ate the takeout dakgangjeong right away at the guesthouse, and also tried it after a lot of time had passed and it had cooled — but wait, both were delicious;

I'm not usually a fan of cold chicken, but apparently they make the dakgangjeong with boneless chicken and even make the sauce from fruit themselves, and that's probably why it stayed tasty even after cooling~

Ah, if you're staying overnight in Jeonju, I highly recommend getting dakgangjeong takeout!!! Seriously!!!!

Sign at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong claiming it tastes even better after cooling

I saw the sign claiming it's even tastier after it cools and honestly thought, how could that be true... but it really is delicious lolol. Honestly, while eating my way through Jeonju Hanok Village, there's plenty of street food that's just okay and only fills you up. But dakgangjeong here isn't a menu that lets you down, and since the owner makes the sauce by hand from scratch, it's a truly authentic dakgangjeong shop!! Trust me and get it to go~ Highly, highly recommend!!♥
