Looking for a spot in Haenggung-dong known for its wait, I found a pizza place that seemed great for a date. On weekends waiting is basically mandatory, and on weekdays it's popular enough that CatchTable reservations sell out. The atmosphere also looked good enough for a blind date.

Does CatchTable sell out at Low Five even on a weekday?

I had a CatchTable reservation, but my schedule moved up, so I went to check if I could get in earlier — only to find that reservations were sold out, proof of just how popular this pizza spot is in Haenggung-dong.

Inside Low Five: the room and the seating

Compared to a typical Western restaurant, this one was on the larger side. Most tables seat four, so a lot of groups come here, but there were also plenty of couples on dates. The calm mood seemed good for a blind date too.

The window seats had softer lighting added to them, so the atmosphere felt nice — good for an anniversary visit.

What to pick up at the self-serve bar

There's a self-serve station in the middle of the restaurant. Cheese powder and hot sauce to go with the pizza aren't served automatically, so you grab them yourself from the self bar.

Napkins, extra plates and cups, knives, hair ties, and aprons were all there for the taking, as much as needed.

Half-and-half pizza: corn on one side, hot pepperoni on the other

I wanted to try the corn pizza Haenggung-dong is famous for, but I was also curious about the spicy pepperoni version, so I went with the half-and-half. Getting two different flavors at once felt like good value too.

The corn pizza had a white truffle cream base — not spicy, soft and mild. Chili shrimp and butter seasoning gave it a savory, salty edge so it never felt greasy. I could see exactly why it's Low Five's signature dish.

The corn had a nice pop with every bite and there was a generous amount of it, along with plenty of toppings overall. The creamy base wasn't salty at all, and it was tasty even without adding extra seasoning. The dough itself had a nice chewy texture too.

The hot pepperoni half had a red sauce base and was mainly about the spicy kick. It was the opposite flavor from the corn side, so I never got tired of eating it.

The pepperoni was piled on generously too — a great option if you're someone who usually likes pepperoni. Every bite reminded me why Low Five is such a well-known pizza spot in Haenggung-dong.

Kimchi fried rice ordered without avocado: how it tasted

The kimchi fried rice comes topped with egg like an omurice, and the egg was fluffier and softer than most steamed egg dishes. There was no fishy egg taste at all, so it blended really well with the kimchi fried rice. It wasn't too spicy, and the buttery flavor kept it mild — a great side to go with the pizza and pasta.

The fried rice wasn't salty, more on the nutty side, so it paired surprisingly well with the Western dishes. It tasted better than the kimchi fried rice I make at home, so it felt worth every won.

Shrimp spicy rigatoni at Low Five

The shrimp spicy rigatoni was spicy and rich. Best of all, they weren't cocktail shrimp — the shrimp were plump enough to really taste, with a satisfying bite too, so I enjoyed it a lot.

The pasta noodles were cooked just right, not hard at all, and with shrimp and bacon both in the mix, every bite felt generous with ingredients.

Is Low Five good for a date or a first meeting?

Overall the mood wasn't too bright or too dim, so lots of couples were dining there, but with such a variety of Western dishes on the menu, it also worked well as a blind-date spot in Haenggung-dong. The corn pizza — Low Five's signature dish — and even the sides had more depth of flavor than I expected. I'd love to come back to this Western food spot again.

A group suddenly came in so we had to move tables, but when we paid at the counter after finishing our meal, they gave us candy as a little dessert service.
